Choosing a Fish Food4 Questions to Guide You
1. What species do you have? What do they eat in their natural habitat? Determine if they are herbivore/omnivore/carnivore, then check the ingredients list and GA to find an appropriate protein/plant content.
2. Where does your fish spend time? This will determine whether you choose a floating or sinking food.
3. How large is your fish’s mouth? Food units should be about 50% of the size of the mouth.4. Does your aquarium have an overflow? If it does, and you do not plan on shutting it off while feeding, then you will want your food to sink so it does not get caught in the overflow/filter.

FROZEN FOOD FAQsWhy do I need to feed frozen if I’m already feeding dry?
Frozen foods add critical variety to the fish diet and mimic natural predatory feeding behavior. They can also provide much needed nutrition for finnicky eaters who are not attracted to dry foods.
Which fish can eat frozen foods?
Almost all fish, with the exception of pure herbivores. Some will like it more than others. Just make sure the size of the food is appropriate for the size of the fish’s mouth, and that you do not rely on single-ingredient frozen foods alone as your staple food.
Should I pre-thaw my frozen food?
It is safe to do either. This totally depends on the result you want in the aquarium. A thawed single-ingredient frozen food will disperse and circulate in the water better. A frozen cube will float and bounce at the top of the water until it thaws or is picked apart.
Why isn’t my fish eating the frozen food?
Your species may have a low predatory drive, or may simply need more time to adjust to the way the food moves/smells/tastes. Be patient, try once a day for two weeks. Consider fasting your fish for a day before trying again.
How do I know if I’m overfeeding?
If there is absolutely any leftover food in your aquarium after 3 minutes, you are overfeeding. You may see organic matter at the bottom of your tank, algae growth, or your fish may begin breathing heavily in the water due to high ammonia levels. Buy a test kit and test your water on a regular basis.

FROZEN FOODSFeeding Charts will be distributed with ISOKeep in mind these are ***general** recommendations and not hard and fast rules
14
• Encourage feeding variety - always point out freezer to customers shopping in dry aisle
• Practice feeding frozen in store tanks• Offer to demonstrate feeding to customers – or have them
participate (pod pouches are perfect for this)• Frozen most mimics natural feeding behavior, customers love
to watch and this creates a sales opportunity for you• Reference feeding chart when recommending a frozen food• Single ingredient frozen should be sold as treat • Formula foods are a complete diet, multiple staple foods and
treats should be encouraged
