People,  the  planet  and  sustainable  livestock  

 Jeroen  Dijkman  has  over  20  years  of  experience  in  promo7ng  development,  innova7on  and  policy  and  ins7tu7onal  change  in  the  rural  and  agricultural  sectors.      His  talk  will  cover:  •  Scarcity  and  demand  in  the  livestock  sector    •  The  consequences  of  conduc7ng  livestock  business  as  usual  •  Unpacking  the  no7on  of  ‘sustainable  livestock  produc7on’  •  The  change  we  want  (and  need)  •  One  world,  one  agenda    Venue:  John  Vercoe  Auditorium,  ILRI  Nairobi  Date:  Friday  18  January  2013  Time:  1500  to  1600  hours    The  20-­‐minute  talk  will  be  followed  by  a  ques7on-­‐and-­‐answer  session.        

   About  the  speaker                    

         Jeroen  Dijkman  was  previously  the  director  of  an  Enabling  Innova7on  Theme  of  the  Interna7onal  Livestock  Research  Ins7tute  (ILRI).  He  currently  works  for  the  Livestock  Informa7on,  Sector  Analysis  and  Policy  Branch  of  the  Food  and  Agriculture  Organiza7on  of  the  United  Na7ons  (FAO).  He  also  coordinates  the  Learning,  Innova7on  and  Knowledge  (LINK)  program,  which  supports  partnerships  that  link  researchers  and  policymakers  in  developing  countries  to  promote  synthesis  of    global  experiences  in  rural  and  agricultural  innova7on.  Dijkman  also  coordinates  the  Global  Agenda  of  Ac7on  for  Sustainable  Livestock  Sector  Development,  a  mul7-­‐stakeholder  ini7a7ve  which  emphasizes  efficient  use  of  natural  resources  and  changes  in  prac7ce  for  sustainable  livestock  sector  development.
