Position Title: Rangi Ruru Basketball Head Coach
Reports to: Director of Sport/Rangi Ruru Senior and Intermediate A Basketball Convenor
Relationships with: Director of Sport Senior and Intermediate A Basketball Convenor Rangi Ruru Basketball Coaches, players and parent community
Employment Status: Contracted position
Primary Purpose of Position
To develop and implement a quality Secondary School coaching programme that will prepare the Rangi Ruru Senior A Basketball team for success in the secondary school in New Zealand.
The Rangi Ruru Basketball Head Coach is a key contributor to the overall development and implementation of the Rangi Ruru Basketball Program.

Current Basketball programme includes the following:
Strength and conditioning compulsory for Senior A and Intermediate A teams. Optional for other teams
Pre-season and in-season development opportunities Student coach development and mentoring Experienced coaches in key positions.
Short-term goal
Experienced coach to lead the Senior A Basketball team and oversee the school Basketball program.

Long-term key goals
The Rangi Ruru Basketball Program has the following long term key goals:
Re-establish Rangi Ruru as a top performing Basketball school with strength across all key teams in the Christchurch School and Club competition
Targeted development of Year 9 -10 players and quality coaching at Junior levels to develop depth in Rangi Ruru Basketball
Consistently make the top four at South Island Secondary Schools Senior and Junior tournaments
More Rangi Ruru players making representative trials and representative teams
Rangi Ruru players are better prepared to play at a competitive level when leaving school
Coaches are supported to offer quality coaching to Rangi Ruru teams
Student refereeing is encouraged, supported and acknowledged.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Create and implement an effective team training programme to ensure individual players and the Senior A team are able to perform technically, physically and mentally in relevant competitions. In 2015, these include:
o Qualifying for Premier division of the Canterbury Secondary Schools Friday night competition
o Canterbury Secondary Schools Friday night competition
o SISS Tournament, September 2015
o NZSS Tournament, October 2015.
Lead the trial and team selection processes for the Senior and Intermediate A teams, in consultation with the Basketball Convenor and other relevant coaches
Maintain knowledge of current coaching developments and techniques applicable to secondary school students
Work with the Conditioning coach to identify individual and team conditioning needs, to enhance performance and build on existing programme structure
Work collaboratively with other Rangi Ruru Basketball personnel (Convenor, Director of Sport and Coaches) to share ideas, ‘best practice’ and identify development needs of players
Present an experienced, positive and professional image to the Rangi Ruru Basketball and parent community
Provide regular updates to Rangi Ruru Basketball personnel on team and individual players performances throughout the season
Develop and lead appropriate individual and team debriefs and reviews at key points throughout season, along with debrief at completion of season.
