Welcome! We rejoice at the opportunity to share with you the

hope that is within us and pray that you might ever desire to learn

more about the Light of the world, Jesus Christ. May the True God

who has redeemed us from sin and death also enable us to “serve

Him without fear in holiness and righteousness... all the days of

our life” (Luke 1:74-75).

If you are visiting our church this

morning we invite you to record

your visit by signing our Guest

Register which is located at the back

of the church. If you have been

looking for a church home, we hope

that you will consider Zion. If you

are interested in more information

about our church or if you would like to become a member of our

congregation, please speak with Pastor Mayhew. He will be eager

to meet with you.

were created."

The Order of Worship

Opening Prayer

Opening Hymn: 239 - Come, Thou Almighty King

Invocation

P: We begin our service in the Name of the Father and of the Son

and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen (spoken).

Confession and Absolution

P: W e have come into the presence of God, who created us to

love and serve Him as His dear children. But we have

disobeyed Him and deserve only His wrath and punishment.

Therefore let us confess our sins to Him and plead for His

mercy.

C: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth.

In countless ways I have sinned against You and do not

deserve to be called Your child. But trusting in Jesus, my

Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to Your unfailing

love. Cleanse me from my sin and take away my guilt.

P: God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the

perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, He has

removed your guilt forever. You are His own dear child. May

God give you strength to live according to His will.

C: Amen (spoken).

3

Lord, Have Mercy (Kyrie)

Glory to God in the Highest (Gloria)

Prayer of the Day

P: Let us pray...

... through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You

and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C: Amen (spoken).

First Reading: Romans 1:16-25 (ESV)

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for

salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the

Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith

for faith, as it is written, "The righteous shall live by faith." 18 For

the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness

and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness

suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to

them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible

attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been

clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things

that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although

they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to

him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts

were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and

exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling

mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. 24 Therefore God

gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the

dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they

exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served

the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

Responsive Reading: Psalm 34:1-9 (NKJV)

P: I will bless the LORD at all times;

C: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

P: My soul shall make its boast in the LORD;

C: The humble shall hear of it and be glad.

P: Oh, magnify the LORD with me,

C: And let us exalt His name together.

P: I sought the LORD, and He heard me,

C: And delivered me from all my fears.

P: This poor man cried out, and the LORD heard him,

C: And saved him out of all his troubles.

5

P: They looked to Him and were radiant,

C: And their faces were not ashamed.

P: The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear

Him,

C: And delivers them.

P: Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good;

C: Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

P: Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints!

C: There is no want to those who fear Him.

Second Reading: Matthew 10:26-39 (NKJV)

26 "Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that

will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. 27

Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear

in the ear, preach on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who

kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able

to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold

for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart

from your Father’s will. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all

numbered. 31 Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than

many sparrows. 32 Therefore whoever confesses Me before men,

him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But

whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My

Father who is in heaven. 34 Do not think that I came to bring peace

on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have

come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her

mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and

‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ 37 He who

loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he

who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38

And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not

worthy of Me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses

his life for My sake will find it.”

P: Blessed are they who hear the word of God and keep it.

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord;

Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

Born of the Virgin Mary;

Suffered under Pontius Pilate,

Was crucified, dead, and buried;

He descended into hell;

The third day He rose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven

And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost;

The holy Christian Church, the communion of Saints;

The forgiveness of sins;

The resurrection of the body;

And the life everlasting. Amen.
