Note:  the  Beat  may  also  be  thought  of  as  Movement  Toward  the  Beat  or  Ictus.  Some  authors  label  the  Beat  as  the  Preparation  (not  to  be  confused  with  preparation  for  an  entry).  In  our  class  the  Beat  in  the  pattern  is  the  approach  stroke  before  the  Ictus,  while  the  exact  moment  of  the  beat  in  the  measure  will  occur  at  the  Ictus.
