SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMS Parkland College delivers a broad range of training programs that provide individuals with the skills needed to become employed or to upgrade their technical skills. Programs are delivered in various locations throughout the Parkland Region, and across categories such as health, trades, administration, technology, and emergency training. Needs of local employers and industry are a major consideration in the range of training programs offered. The program mix is reviewed annually to ensure that the training is current and relevant for the Parkland Region. Courses are brokered from SIAST or from other credit training institutions. Students completing will receive transcripts and/or certificates from the appropriate credit-granting institute. Trades-related programs are also designed to meet Saskatchewan Apprenticeship requirements. In some cases, training is enhanced and customized to meet local needs. History of the Initiative The project came to fruition during the celebration of the College’s 25th Anniversary in 1998. All proceeds from that event were donated to the Parkland College Scholarship Fund. The first year awards totaled a little over $2,000. Since that time the fund has grown dramatically, and we are now able to offer over $100,000 in scholarships each year to Parkland College students. This has been made possible through the generosity of local organizations, businesses, community members, Parkland College staff and Board of Governors. Through the matching funds received from the Ministry of Advanced Education’s Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program, we have been able to substantially increase community partnerships.
