• UG & PG students have been involved in paid outreach for ~20 years. Variety activities e.g.– “Think about Physics”– Masterclasses – Discover/Science Alive– Schools workshops
• Different models of who gets paid and what they do depending on the event– Presenting research has been considered as
“training” for PGs

• Undergraduates– Usually enthusiastic – In general, creative contributions
• Usually not involved in preparations so a fresh pair of eyes
– Occasional concerns about the science • What we are asking them to do is hard!
• Postgraduates– Presenting research is usually considered training– Workshops etc. need committed students.

– 50 hours Work/Life Experience – Attend a minimum of 4 workshops to include 1 related to interview
skills and 1 related to job-market awareness – One Intensive Skills Activity – A 300 word Report
• Intensive skills – gained employability-related skills e.g. teamwork, communication. – participated in an interactive manner (i.e. not all passive listening) – participated for a minimum of 7 hours – reviewed the skills you have gained from the activity/event e.g.
report, review meeting, presentation.
