Matrix OrganisationIntroduction to the FCO’s Prosperity Fund Programme
• The Prosperity Fund is a programme that encourages global growth in line with the UK’s development goals on sustainable development.
• HM Government announced a £1.3bn Prosperity Fund over the next 5 years to promote the economic reform and development needed for growth in partner countries.
• Peru Prosperity Fund Projects are looking for practical and high-impactinterventions. Projects can be designed to deliver outcomes in one year or over a 2-5 year multiyear programme. Typical projects will be around £100,000 in year one.
• Four areas of interest on Peru Prosperity Fund are Accessible Healthcare, Energy, Infrastructure, Education.
• Accessible Healthcare projects wants to help extend effective healthcare services to even more of the Peruvian population, or those that improve the effectiveness of existing services.
5
How does the Project help Prosperity? (I)
What Programme Objectives does this project help to meet?
Prosperity Fund Programme for Peru1
Helping Peru to build sustainable and inclusive growth supported by UK expertise in accessible healthcare2
Making sectoral (inc UK) best practice more accessible3
6
How does the Project help Prosperity? (II)
How will this project help to deliver the Programme Objectives?
By supporting the improvement, extension and scale-upof integrated healthcare services in remote and non
accessible areas
1
With the use of eHealth and mobile health (mHealth)technologies and services
2
And, enabled with enhanced connectivity solutions such as terrestrial and/or satellite communications
3
7
How does the Project help Prosperity? (III)
What benefit will this project deliverfor UK?
1UK companies shall benefit from new opportunities for
knowledge transfer and exchange, provision of technological products, solutions and services in Peru
To support healthcare practitioners and local/national government in accessing new eHealth and mHealth technologies and solutions in rural areas within UK
2
8
How does the Project help Prosperity? (IV)
What considerations are taken to foster sustainability and long-term strategy and thus diminishing dependence?
By involving the government beneficiary from the outset in the project design and during execution
1
By including a local and key stakeholder, Cayetano Heredia University, specialised in health sciences to ensure the
successful delivery of the project, as well as becoming the connection to decision makers in Peru
2
By engaging with UK government and bodies in trade and exports to support the initiative
3
9
How does the Project help Prosperity? (V)
How is this project likely to contribute to a reduction in poverty and ODA?
OECD “despite improvements in access to both healthcare and education, the quality of these essential public services remains
insufficient to meet the needs of citizens”1
An IBD study showed that an increase in investment on health by 1.25% in Peru reduced poverty by 3.48% and the GINI inequality index by
6.63% which in turn had a positive impact on GDP
2
The project is designed to plan an expansion of healthcare coverage in difficult areas
3
Promoting an accessible and inclusive healthcare coverage, the mortality and morbidity, especially in vulnerable groups will
decrease, raising the quality of life of the population4
