OUR LADY OF MERCY PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Our Lady of Mercy Parish is a Catholic community that worships God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, celebrating Mass, proclaiming the Gospel Message and uniting in prayer. We strive to welcome all and to educate ourselves and others in the Good News of Jesus Christ. We support one another in times of joy and sadness and attempt to serve each other by reaching out to those in need in our community and beyond. We are imperfect people on a journey. Our goal is that the life of each person leads to the Lord.
LET US PRAY In your love and kindness please pray for the sick of our parish, especially: Marie Barrett, Louis Glayat, Gloria Macagnone, and for the prayer requests listed in the book of intentions in the Vestibule.
Please also remember the deceased of our parish and their families, especially: Theresa Adams, Clifford Coppinger, Marianne DeDea, Patricia Lynn Buck, Nicholas Apuzzo, and Claire Padla.
Please join with us in praying one OUR FATHER per day for all those who have no one to pray for them.
THE SANCTUARY LAMPS IN CHURCH burn this week in memory of: Jim Flynn, and for Special Intentions.
THE SANCTUARY LAMP IN THE CHAPEL burns this week in memory of Tecla Barber.
If you would like more information about reserving a Sanctuary Lamp in memory of a loved one or for a Special Intention, please call the rectory office at 201-391-5315.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.” Jeremiah 1:5
We are all called to make a difference in the world. Our vocations are uniquely ours based on the gifts that God has given us. St. Augustine said, “God loves each of us as if there were only one of us.”
There are consecrated low gluten hosts available at all our Sunday Liturgies. They are made available during the reception of Communion near the ramp.
THE MIRACULOUS MEDAL NOVENA will be recited each Saturday in the Sacred Heart Chapel immediately following the 8:30AM Mass.
THE FAMILY OF GOD meets Tuesday at 7:30PM in the Chapel to praise God and pray for special intentions.
DAUGHTERS OF MARY meets Thursday mornings at 9:30AM in the Chapel.
THE ROSARY SOCIETY will attend the 8:30AM Mass on the first Saturday of the month, followed by recitation of the Rosary.
MOTHER’S GROUPS meet day or evening for one hour each week. If interested in joining, please call Cathy Flynn at 201-391-1482.
Pastor’s Column
PRAYER GROUPS
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
This weekend once again we are invited to participate in the annual “Sharing God’s Blessings Appeal” (also known as the “Archbishop’s Annual Appeal”).
Let’s face it, it’s sad to say, but Church hierarchy, bish-ops and priests are not very popular at this moment in history. With that comes the tempting thought that maybe I should not contribute to this Appeal!
I hope that this will not tempt you to think this way! As for me, I will contribute to the “Sharing God’s Blessing” Appeal once again this year because of my own per-sonal experience of how these funds are used.
For example, over New Year’s, I was the spiritual direc-tor for a mission trip to El Salvador with young men dis-cerning the priesthood, through our Vocations Office. This trip could not take place without the “Sharing God’s Blessings” Appeal.
For almost twenty years, I worked in many capacities in our Seminary. So many aspects of Seminary life and work depend on the “Sharing God’s Blessings” Appeal. Some of this includes the pre-Seminary studies of stu-dents from other countries. Our own Deacon Juan Ro-jas was aided by these funds while he lived in our Em-maus House and studied English at Rutgers Newark, and he has turned out great!
Our programs for academic and pastoral formation of Permanent Deacons, like our own Deacon Joe Romano and for Ed Stoker who is in formation now, are also funded substantially through “Sharing God’s Blessings” each year.
So many other things are possible because of this Ap-peal each year, such as aid to poorer parishes; pro-grams for Evangelization and Catechesis; aid to our Catholic Schools; the enormous work of our “Catholic Charities”; funds for Priest retirement; Youth Ministry, and for Campus Ministry at Seton Hall and in the many colleges and universities in the Archdiocese.
As you prayerfully consider this Appeal, along with the brochures and information we’ll provide in Church, I invite you to look at the information on the Archdioce-san website, including the videos with personal testimo-nies of people who have benefitted from this Appeal (at: https://www.rcan.org/sharing).
God bless you all!
MSGR. TURRO HOMILY
My Dear Friends,
As you look back over your life you may find that you have always had your hand outstretched to receive from God. You ask for good health, you ask for friends, for financial security – on and on it goes. There is noth-ing at all wrong with this. There is no limit to God’s gen-erosity. But do you ever make an effort out of basic decency to make some return to God for His generosity to you? You could say “thank you” as you speed along the parkway, as you stand on line to be waited on at the supermarket. But in some way or other you ought to express your gratitude for God’s massive generosity toward you. January 27, 2019 Homily
