(Oscar) Claude Monet was born on 14 November 1840 on the fifth floor of 45 rue Laffitte, in Paris. His father owned a grocery store and his mother was a singer.
As a child Monet attended the Le Havre secondary school of the arts. He made charcoal caricatures, which he would sell for ten to twenty francs to people who walked by. Monet also undertook his first drawing lessons from Jacques- Francois Ochard
Monet was inspired on a trip to Paris when he visited the Louvre. He liked to draw inspiration from the work made by other painters.
Also, when Monet served in the army he saw landscapes that inspired some of his art.

Monet died of lung cancer on 5 December 1926 at the age of 86. Do to his own request to keep his ceremony simple only 50 people were allowed to attend. It was a very tragic event.
