Vocabulary… Order Of Operations Definition: Rules for evaluating an
expression involving more than one operation.
Sentence: Mathematicians have established an order of operations to evaluate an expression involving more than one operation.
Basics… Rule 1: First perform any calculations
inside parentheses. Rule 2: Next perform all multiplications
and divisions, working from left to right. Rule 3: Lastly, perform all additions and
subtractions, working from left to right
Just A Way To Remember…. P = Please E = Excuse M = My D = Dear A = Aunt S = Sally
Parenthesis
1. Always do parenthesis first.2. If there isn’t any parenthesis skip it .Example… (56+23)
Exponents 1. The second step you must do is
exponents !Example 5² =25
Multiplication and Division.1. Do multiplication and division from left to
right. Example : (4+6)6x9÷5
Addition & Subtraction 1. Do addition and subtraction from left to
right
