Online Portfolio / ePortfolio Online – meaning it will be
easily accessible on the Worldwide Web.
ePortfolio – meaning electronic Portfolio. It is easy to back up an Online Portfolio and burn it onto a CD-R
Similar to a hardcopy/paper Teaching Portfolio – but some advantages!
Why create an ePortfolio…instead of a hardcopy/paper
Portfolio? Accessibility: easy access for a potential
employer Up-to-date: you have access at any time to
change/update the information Content: can include a larger array of
materials and multimedia representative of your teaching
Format: the format alone shows that you are computer savvy
Two types of ePortfolios:
Summative – for applying for an academic position/promotion or tenure
Formative – for personal and professional development
Characteristics… of an effective ePortfolio
Structured Organized – easy to navigate and find information Complete – include all the necessary information Creative
Representative Comprehensive – be representative of your teaching and who
you are as a person
Selective Do not include EVERYTHING. You want your best materials to stand out.
Other KEY Factors to think about: Professional
You do not want inappropriate information published/linked.
You do not want advertising (banners or pop-ups) You do not want email addresses such as
