One-Day Workshop on Severity Classification and Harm Benefit Analysis in Animal Experimentation

The workshop on “Severity Classification and Harm Benefit Analysis in Animal

Experimentation” organized by SCTIMST and funded by Laboratory Animal Scientists Association, India

Regional workshop grant was conducted on 18th Feb-2020, at Achutha Menon Centre, SCTIMST. Dr.

Klas Abelson, Associate Professor, Department of Experimental Medicine, Faculty of Health and

Medicine, University of Copenhagen, Denmark lead the sessions. The aim was to enlighten the

scientists, research students, technicians and veterinarians in animal experimentation about the

importance of severity classification and harm benefit analysis in bringing in welfare and refinement

in animal experimentation during the planning, applying for ethical permissions and evaluating

applications and during the actual conduct of experiments.

The course was attended by about 50 participants who were Scientists, Veterinarians, CPCSEA

nominees, MSc, MVSc and PhD Students from organizations across the South Indian states viz

Hyderabad, Bangalore, Tumkur, Padappai, Chennai, Kumaracoil, Nagercoil, Trichur, Wayanad,

Kozhikode, Kottayam and Trivandrum.
