2012 Youth Photo Competition Doug Finch APSA
What a great Youth Photo Competition - we filled the room during our last
meeting with excited young photographers from around the state. Carol
McCreary APSA, PPSA continues to do an outstanding job with the able
assistance of Tom McCreary EPSA. Lorraine Caddy, Wally Lee APSA,
and Doug Finch APSA handled the judging responsibilities this year.
PSA expanded the Youth Photo Competition this year to include digital along
with the printed images. We had 110 entrants with 260 prints and 194 digital
images. This represented six schools from around the state with 40 student
winners. The club’s website includes a lot of additional information in addition to
what we have included in this issue of the HypoCheck, make sure you check it
out.

contributed to Mr. A. J. Johnson, an
instructor that teaches a class in
photography and promotes the
participation by all of the students at
the school. This is wonderful and
certainly something the students
enjoy and the club benefits from. This
is also something we need to
encourage at other schools around
the state. We can help by promoting
the competition at the schools by
contacting them, encouraging
participation and handing out flyers -
get out there and help out. I am sure
Carol and Tom would appreciate it and the state of Oklahoma and the
Oklahoma Camera Club would
benefit.

Carol manages this fantastic statewide
competition without any donations
from the students in an attempt to
encourage more to participate. But it
does take money to produce. The
Club Board voted to contribute $200
as seed money to help this year.
Unfortunately, the individual club
member donat ions are down
substantially this year, but it is not too
late. So, please donate to help out.
Just get it to Carol or Tom
McCreary, every little bit helps.
I am sure you have noticed the great
participation and success of the
students from Kingfisher High School
in the competition. This can largely be

Ward Conaway has agreed to assume the duties of managing the Photograph Route 66 Project and the deadline has been extended to May 31, 2012. Please check out the club’s website for assignment details or the October issue of the HypoCheck. On
the website, the link to the Route 66 project is at the top of the page.
This is intended to be a fun and creative activity, not a competition. Please submit your images to [email protected]. Print Competition Rules Change Next Year The club, through the efforts of Jan Lee APSA, PPSA, will be able to accept un-mounted prints
for club competition next year beginning July 10. The Board is hopeful that this will simplify
entering prints, and encourage members to enter more print competitions while maintaining the
ability to show the prints at the end of the club meeting. All other print competition rules will
remain the same.

Edmond Fine Arts Institute of Edmond 27 E. Edwards, Edmond OK
The club is looking forward to having our prints displayed at the Edmond Fine Arts Institute
again this year during the month of June. Wally Lee APSA will be coordinating the effort as he
has in the past. The prints are hung around the first of June so he will need to collect your
contributions by mid- May, the earlier the better. The pictures must be framed in a black "Trend
Setter" Fame from Michael's. We would prefer the frame to be the 16 X 20 size. Picture can be
any size that will fit the frame and must be matted in a pure white mat. The pictures will be
displayed at the Edmond Fine Arts Institute and should be appropriate for Children. Because the
Institute takes a percentage of the sale price, we place a price of $125 for each framed print.
Members have sold a number of prints at this show and it is always worth taking a few minutes to
stop by and walk through. Wally will need the title for your image as he will be making the name
tags for the prints.

Digital Scavenger Hunt
2012 Rules There are fifteen named categories in the 2012 scavenger hunt and entries are to be
photographs you have taken between April 24 and June 30, 2012. Please enter your best
photograph in each category. Should you enter all categories, you will submit a total of
15 photographs. You are, however, NOT REQUIRED TO ENTER ALL SUBJECT
CATEGORIES. Only camera club members can enter, and once your entry has been
taken, it may not be changed or altered in any manner.
All images must be turned in by June 30, 2012. A maximum of 15 images (subjects) may
be submitted, but as noted, you do not need to enter all 15 categories. First, second and
third place winners will be selected for each subject as well as overall points computed
for those finishing in these places.
Please present your entries on or before June 30th by submitting them on a CD or USB
flash drive to Randy Carr at the club meeting. THIS IS THE PREFERRED METHOD OF
ENTRY. Should you need to submit an entry other than by way of the above you may do
so by sending it via email to Randy Carr at [email protected] or mailing it to Randy
Carr at 11117 Ashford Drive, Yukon, OK 73099.
Images must be JPEG Files and cannot be altered, cropped or resized in anyway.
Alterations in Photoshop, Elements, Lightroom or any other photo editing software
is not allowed. You may not convert Raw files to jpeg images. The only changes you
may make is to rename them when they are downloaded from your camera to your CD
or flash drive. If in doubt, the judges may look at the file metadata information.
Please be aware that if you are going to email your images, there may be a problem with
your file sizes and some email programs. Be sure you adjust your camera file size
BEFORE you shoot should you plan to email. Remember, you cannot resize your
images once you have taken them.
Files should be renamed as follows: 1-LAST NAME-FIRST NAME.JPG, where 1 is
the number of the first subject from the list below. Example, 1-McCreary-Tom.jpg would
be an image of a fence. The subjects are as follows:
1. Fences 2. Leaves/foliage/flowers 3. Hardware 4. Emotions 5. Textures
6. Pets 7. Nurturing 8. A Profession 9. Heavenly Bodies 10. Wheels
11. Containers 12. Water Reflections 13. Stain Glass Windows 14. Old Trucks/Pre 1970 15. Portals
Good Luck and let me know if you have any questions. Email Randy Carr
[email protected] phone 405-373-0339 or Lee Donlon at [email protected] phone
405-387-5272. The images will be judged and the results presented at the July meeting.
