I missed serving in local government and was approached by several citizens to run for
mayor. I previously served as Mayor of Metolius, Oregon for seven (7) years and I have
a very solid background in city government. After attending several Boardman City
Council meetings, I felt that I had something to offer to the citizens of Boardman as far
as my experience and knowledge of city government.

Does it matter if you are a registered Democrat or Republican?
No. I will represent the citizens of Boardman on an equal basis. The Mayor is
independent of political affiliation.
Are you running for Mayor of Boardman because you have an agenda?
Serving the Community of Boardman to the best of my ability is my only agenda !
What do you think are the duties of the Mayor of Boardman?
Strong Leadership skills
Highest Standards of ethics

Morrow County Ambulance Serviceis in need of additional volunteer driv-ers in all areas of the county, EmergencyMedical Services (EMS) Director RustyEstes has announced.
“Our volunteer drivers are essentialto the District’s Ambulance Service,”says CEO Mike Blauer. “We would notbe able to operate around the clock with-out them.”
Ambulance drivers take call from 6p.m. to 6 a.m. on the days they sign upto cover. “The volunteers set their ownschedule,” Estes said. During the timethey’re on call they must be able to ar-rive at the ambulance station and be enroute within six minutes. Volunteer driv-ers are paid $2.40 per hour for the timethey are on call, and receive a small sti-pend each time they respond. Becom-ing an ambulance driver involves com-
pleting a one-day training class (heldon Saturdays and Sundays), passing abackground and fit-for-duty test, andriding along on five ambulance runs asan observer.
“It’s a simple and great way to helpfill a needed service for the community,”says Herman Winter of Heppner, who’sbeen a volunteer driver since 1981.
Wayne Huwe, of Irrigon, also a vol-unteer driver for more than 20 years, echoes that statement and says he en-joys driving the ambulance, and adds,“It’s giving back to the community andknowing you’re helping people.”
Anyone interested in becoming avolunteer driver for the ambulance ser-vice, or who would like more informa-tion, can contact EMS Director RustyEstes at 541-676-2922.

Apples ready to harvest in thefall make for tasty juice and robustcider, popular treats this time ofyear. If you plan to squeeze yourown apples, however, precautionsmight be in order.
Windfall apples could be con-taminated with bacteria. Raw juiceor cider has been linked with E.coliO157:H7. Outbreaks usually hap-pen when fallen fruit comes in con-tact with domestic or wild animalsthat frequent an orchard, accord-ing to Carolyn Raab, food and nu-trition specialist with Oregon StateUniversity Extension Service.
An easy way to minimize the riskof illness is to pasteurize raw applejuice before drinking it by heatingthe juice to a safe 160 degrees. Thisis a wise precaution for both home-squeezed juice and unpasteurizedjuice purchased from fruit stands.“If you don’t have a thermometer, heat the juice to simmering (justbelow the boiling point whenbubbles appear),” Raab advised.“Pasteurization is particularly im-portant if pregnant women, youngchildren, older adults and peoplewith cancer, AIDS and other ill-nesses that affect the immune sys-
If you plan to press your own apples, take precautions
tem are going to drink the applejuice or cider,” Raab said.
For long-term storage, applejuice may be canned in a boilingwater canner. Heat the liquid toboiling, put into pint or quart jarsand process in the canner for fiveminutes. (Longer times are neededat altitudes over 1,000 feet.) Thejuice also can be frozen. Be sure toleave adequate headspace if thejuice is frozen in jars.

Morethan 600,000 gallons of leftoverswere collected during the secondyear. The program has collected1,079,136 gallons of leftoverpaint throughout Oregon sincethe program began in July 2010. The report reveals that the Or-egon pilot program, the first of itskind in the U.S., has shown signifi-cant increases in both the collec-tion of latex and alkyd (oil-based)paint as well as the public’s gen-eral awareness of the program.

There arenow a total of 102 drop-off sites inOregon, and 94% of all Oregonianslive within 15 miles of a PaintCaredrop-off site, an increase from 65%at the start of the PaintCare pro-gram. I am David Jones and own Frontier Court and J&J Sales in Boardman. Iunderstand the challenges facing Boardman. As manager/owner I dealwith the economic and social difficulties on a daily basis with mybusinesses and the 40+ families in my park. I am as anxious as you tofind ways to attract more businesses to Boardman, keep our quality ofliving high, and protect the resources that we enjoy. I love living inBoardman, the hard working people, the community spirit, and supportthat I’ve experienced here is second to none. I also really like the fishing!
I have volunteered in Guatemala, establishing employment centers andteaching career workshops, also helping Arizona’s largest homeless shelterwith reorganization and logistical challenges, as well as assisting withlocal Boy Scout and Cub Scout programs.
I have a Masters degree in global management and understand howadministration works. I have over 9 years of experience in businessdevelopment and marketing, consulting with many large companies allover the world.
