OBITUARIESWilliam Giannone III

William J. "BJ" Gianncne III,] 8, of Mountainside died Jan. 31following his participation in aswim meet, where he was repre-senting Saint Peter's PreparatoryHigh School, Jersey City.

Born in Nassau County, N.Y.,Mr. Giannone moved to Mountain-side on his third birthday. Heattended Deerfield ElementarySchool in Mountainside, thenentered Saint Peter's preparatoryHigh School. Mr. Giannone wasinvolved in many sports and com-munity service activities. As a CubScout, he and his group created the"gift box" public art display at theMountainside Borough Hall Christ-mas Tree site. Mr. Giannone was amember of Our Lady of LourdesCYO in Mountainside, and partici-pated in projects that increasedawareness and did fund-raising forsocial issues, such as homelessness.

At Saint Peter's PreparatorySchool, he pursued education anddeveloped international interests.Mr. Giannone and his parentsbecame involved in studentexchange and were hosts to an Ital-ian student. He visited the student'sfamily in Italy. In school, he wasinterested in sports. Mr. Giannonewas a member of the baseball teamall four years. He also was in hisfirst year of swimming. Mr. Gian-none wanted to become a sportsbroadcaster and recently was acolor commentator for the school'sfootball games. He was selected tobe a "henchman" for Marauders'Nation, the school's spirit group.

Mr. Giannone was on the year-book committee during junior andsenior year, offering more of hisleadership and organizing skills, ashe did when he co-founded theSociety for Comedic Appreciation,"S.C.A.," where the students couldwatch comedy films and memorizethe scripts. In Campus Ministry,Mr. Giannone combined his reli-gious beliefs for the disenfran-chised. He mentored students, andin 2009, went to West Virginia,where he worked in a camp forunderprivileged children. This year,Mr. Giannone had scheduled him-self to go to New Orleans to assistin the continuing efforts for the vic-tims of Hurricane Katrina. He alsoreceived notice of acceptance atVirginia Technical Institute. Mr.Giannone also wrote 85 songs.

Surviving are his mother, Mau-reen Culley Giannone, and hisfather, William J. Giannone Jr.

Dr. Joel LevinsonDr. Joel Levinson of Mountain-

side, a gastroenterologist in Spring-field and president of the medicalstaff of Overlook Hospital, Sum-mit, died Feb. 3 at home. He alsomaintained a second home inChicago.

Dr. Levinson's late father, Dr.

David Levinson, had been aNewark pediatrician. Dr. JoelLevinson graduated from CornellUniversity in 1959. He attendedGeorgetown Medical School andlater studied at the University ofChicago and at Vanderbilt Univer-sity, Nashville, Tenn.

In 1971, Dr. Levinson enteredprivate practice in Springfield andcontinued to maintain his practiceuntil his retirement in 2010. Heserved as a chief of gastroenterolo-gy and later chief of medicine atOverlook Hospital. Dr. Levinsonbecame vice president of the med-ical staff at Overlook and then pres-ident. He earned appointments asassistant professor of medicine atColumbia University and MountSinai Hospital in New York. Thesyllabus Dr. Levinson establishedhelped prepare doctors for theboards in gastroenterology. In the1960s, he served as a captain in theAir Force.

He originally was responsiblefor long-distance running forweight loss and later competed inmany marathons, including Boston.

Surviving are his wife of 51years, Barbara; two daughters,Marcy and Dana, and seven grand-children.

Paul Ambrose Sr.Paul N.

Ambrose Sr.,87, of Uniondied Jan. 30 inthe Cranford

Health and Extended Care Center.Born in Newark, Mr. Ambrose

resided in Union. He served in theMarine Corps during World War IIin the Pacific Theater from 1942 to1945 and was involved in the bat-tles of Guadalcanal andBougainville as a heavy machinegun crewman. After the war, Mr.Ambrose was employed byAnheuser-Busch for 37 years andwas an owner of two Amoco gaso-line stations.

Surviving are his wife of 54years, Victoria; a son, Paul N. Jr.; adaughter, Kathleen Burns; a broth-er, Franklin, and six grandchildren.

Daniel BastosDaniel Bastos, 26, of Roselle

died Jan. 30 from injuries sustainedin an automobile accident.

Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Bastoslived in Roselle most of his life. Hewas a forklift operator for VanBrunt Co., Elizabeth, for the pastyear. Previously, Mr. Bastosworked for Plymouth Printing Co.,Cranford, as a printer's assistant.

Surviving are his parents, Joseand Maria Amelia Bastos; hispaternal grandmother, Olivia Bas-tos; his maternal grandfather,Alexandrino Basots; a brother,Jose, and three sisters, Chelsea,

Lily and Celia. The Leonard-LeeFuneral Home handled the arrange-ments.

Louise BlossomLouise S. Blossom, 83, of Sum-

mit died Feb. 3 in Winchester Gar-dens, Maplewood.

Mrs. Blossom lived in the Hart-ford, Conn., area, moved to NewJersey in 1961 and lived in Summitand vicinity for more than 30 years.She was active in the affairs of theSummit United Methodist Church,the Summit College Club and Sum-mit schools as an occasional substi-tute teacher. Mrs. Blossom was anavid duplicate bridge player andachieved the ACBL rank of bronzelife master.

Surviving are her husband, JohnK.; a son, John J.; a daughter, AnneB. McManus, and a grandchild..

Born in Quebec, Canada, Mr.Cadorette lived in Douglas, Mass.,and for 30 years in Roselle Park.He was an Army veteran of Worldwar II and served in the Battle ofRhineland and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign.

Surviving are a son, Lawrence;a daughter, Debbie Giammearse,and a sister, Alice Regenthal.

Carmela CocuzzaCarmela Lucy Cocuzza, 91, of

Cranford died Feb. 1 at home.Born in Elizabeth, Mrs. Cocuz-

za lived in Cranford for 60 years.During World War II, she was a"Rosie the Riveter" for the GeneralMotors Corp., Linden, later, Mrs.Cocuzza was a secretary for Hasco,Newark. She retired many yearsago. Mrs. Cocuzza was a memberof the AARP and the Multiple Scle-rosis Society.

Surviving are her husband of 65years, Philip C ; two daughters,Anne Marie Guiliano and LorrainePalmieri; two sons, Philip andMichael; two sisters, MargaretKoberski and Mary Caldwell; fivegrandchildren and two great-grand-children. The Mastapeter FuneralHome, Roselle Park, handled thearrangements.

Dominic DiMuccioDominic

AntonioDiMuccio, 94,a lifelong resi-dent of Sum-

mit, died Feb. 2 in Overlook Hospi-tal, Summit.

Mr. DiMuccio was born in Mur-ray Hill. He worked as chief ofmaintenance for the Union CountyPark Commission, now referred toas Union County Board of ChosenFreeholders. He also conducted theTrap and Skeet Range for 42 yearsand retired in 1980. Following hisretirement from Union County, Mr.DiMuccio worked as chief of main-tenance for the City of SummitChamber of Commerce for morethan 10 years. He served in the

Army Air Force during World WarII and was one of six brothers toserve overseas and return homesafely following their honorabledischarge.

Surviving are his wife of 61years, Jiacondina Anna; two daugh-ters, Bernadette DiMuccio Yeagerand Rose DiMuccio Rickey; threebrothers, Frank and FrederickDiMuccio and Harold Demarest; asister, Julia Caffery; 12 grandchil-dren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Janet Faithful!Janet H. Faithfull, 88, of Sum-

mit died Feb. 3 in Berkeley HeightsNursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Bom in Newark, Mrs. Faithfulllived in Irvington before moving toSummit in 1953. She was an exec-utive secretary at Western ElectricCo., Kearny.

Mrs. Faithfull then worked assecretary to the reading counselorsof the elementary schools in Sum-mit before becoming secretary oftwo superintendents of the schools.She retired in 1983 after 15 years.Mrs. Faithfull was a longtimemember of the Central PresbyterianChurch, Summit.

Surviving are two sons, Donaldand Douglas, and two grandchil-dren.
