Nutrition  Focused  Physical  Exam  Hands-­‐On  Training  Workshop  

 RDNs   who   attend   the   training  workshop   will   gain   the  knowledge   and   skills   necessary  to   perform   NFPE   and   train  colleagues  at  their  clinic,  hospital  or  patient  center.

Workshop  Objectives  

Ø Recognize  the  role  of  Nutrition  Focused  Physical  Exam  (NFPE)  in  identifying  malnutrition  

Ø Assess  muscle  wasting  and  fat  loss  Ø Evaluate  the  presence  of  edema  or  fluid  accumulation  Ø Identify  clinical  signs  of  micronutrient  deficiencies  &  toxicities  Ø Measure  functional  status  using  handgrip  strength  

dynamometer  Ø Demonstrate  basic  NFPE  skills  with  actual  patients
