Number Day: Teacher’s Notes.
As part of a school Number Day event we used 55 Q6 handsets (11 teams of 5) to complete a variety of maths questions in
teams: multiple choice, numerical and paper-based (Tarsia).
Slide 7 is the start of
what pupils actually saw
on the screen.

This was to allow equal points for each team and
also to collect the handsets securely.
We also took time to assign the
handsets to the teams before the
pupils arrived.

The activity was a success, Learning & Teaching Scotland who watched one activity commended it, remarking on engagement and use of group work.
Development.
We began by thinking that all questions should be sent to handsets rather than the screen to foster group work.
We now think a variety of screen-aided questions and handset-only questions is better practice. This presentation will be re-worked accordingly.
