Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the
CHRIST THE KING The 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I received a great amount of media a en on last year. We should note that our feast today of Christ the King was established in 1925, in the a ermath of the violence of World War I. Pope Pius XI ins tuted the Feast of Christ the King with the goal of affirming the "Kingly dignity of Christ" by remembering the words of the Nicene Creed, "and His kingdom will have no end." Today's liturgy reminds us that we are brothers and sisters in Christ, and that our life with Jesus should move us toward greater unity. In a world that seems so
divided, may Christ unite us in His kingdom of jus ce, love and peace. THANKSGIVING Mass will be offered at 8:30am on Thursday, November 28 for Thanksgiving Day. Coming to Mass is a most fi ng way to thank God for the many blessings He has given us. Please note that our parish offices will close at 1:00pm on Wednesday, Nov. 27 and reopen on Monday, Dec. 2 at 9:00am. FOOD DRIVE Thanks to the Altar and Rosary Sodality for organizing the Food Drive last weekend. People generously donated 460 pounds of food and $1,566 as dona ons for the food pantry. Thank you to all who helped! HELP ST. RAPHAEL WITH A YEAR-END GIFT Our parish relies on your generous support to help us offer our services and ministries. Please consider making a year-end gi to help us with our opera ng costs or help us with the many projects s ll needed for our building. If you have ques ons about making a gi , please contact me or Deacon Peter LeTourneau, our parish Opera ons Director. Thank you. MORNING PRAYER During Advent we will have pray Morning Prayer in church on Wednesdays and Thursdays for the first three weeks of Advent beginning at 8:05am. Morning Prayer includes several psalms, a scripture reading and intercessions and takes about 20 minutes from start to finish. Booklets will be provided to assist us in praying together. This is an excellent way to grow spiritually during Advent. Please join us. A HELPFUL BOOKLET FOR CHILDREN Some of you may be familiar with "Magnificat", a Catholic publica on that has the prayers and scripture readings for Mass. The publishers of Magnificat also publish a booklet for children to use at Mass tled: "Magnifikid". We will be distribu ng 20 copies of Magnifikid each Sunday of Advent for use in our church. If your child or grandchild is old enough to read, he or she will enjoy having this Missalle e. We will distribute the booklets in church while supplies last. BIBLE STUDY Our parish Bible study will resume on Tuesday, December 10 at 7:00 pm and Wednesday, December 11 at 9:15 am. Both will meet in the Fellowship Hall. In our Lord, Fr. Mike McGovern [email protected]

Making an Impact with Your Estate Plans A gi through your will or other estate plan lets you con nue your support of your favorite charitable interest into the future. A properly planned legacy gi offers poten al tax and other financial benefits for your estate and/or heirs. It is important to consider how such charitable gi s might affect your overall estate plan, so always consult your a orney and other professional advisers. When you make or update a will, you may include charitable bequests as a percentage of what is le a er other bequests have been made, a specific dollar amount, or even a par cular asset. You may be able to add a bequest to an exis ng through a codicil, or amendment. When you leave the balance of an IRA or 401(k) to your heirs, they must carefully manage the account to avoid losing its tax-deferred status and poten ally triggering large income taxes and possible penal es. You can simplify ma ers for your loved ones by direc ng all or a por on of what remains in your re rement accounts to chari es and leaving other more tax-favored assets to heirs. Designa ng a charitable beneficiary of an IRA or 401(k) does not require you to change your will. It is important to check with your plan manager to make sure your current intent is reflected on your beneficiary designa on. You can also name a charitable interest as the beneficiary of life insurance policies without changing your will. As your financial and family circumstances have changed over the years, you may have life insurance policies that are no longer needed for their original purposes. They may make an excellent source of charitable gi s. Please prayerfully consider a legacy gi to St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church when making or reviewing your estate plans. God Bless you, Deacon Peter LeTourneau Opera ons Director

Time to Order Oplatki One of the most cherished and most widely preserved Christmas customs among Chris ans of Eastern and Central Europe is the use of Oplatki. The significance of the Oplatki Christmas wafer is that it shadows the Eucharis c meal that we par cipate in at each Mass. Please the Parish office (847.395.3474) to order The charge per envelope, which consists of 3 wafers and a Christmas le er explaining the tradi on and meaning of the wafer, is $3.00. Providing parishes with Oplatki is one of the basic means of financial support for the Missionary Sisters of St. Benedict.
