Subject: Continuing Issues with Lights at Villanova Stadium
Neighbors and Friends,
I am writing to follow-up on the issue of the lights in our stadium operating at full intensity past
midnight last evening the latest in a series of incidents.
The lights were on as a result of a software failure in the new timer system we recently installed.
That was compounded by a series of other issues, the circumstances of which truly do not matter. The lights were on and they shouldnt have been.
Properly managing the lights in the stadium is something that we take seriously. I am aware that
I have said this the past, yet our actions have continually failed to demonstrate that commitment.I am embarrassed and furious that the situation has deteriorated to this point. It is unacceptable
and you have every right to be upset. I take full responsibility.
We are taking concrete steps to ensure that this never happens again:
Effective today (2/17/12), the lights in the Villanova Stadium will be programmed to be
completely off by 9:15 p.m. every night.
There may be exceptions for varsity athletic games/matches (not practices), such as lacrosse, that have start times that cannot be moved.
The varsity events that will make use of the Stadium past 9:00 p.m. will be communicated in
advance to you. We are working on that list now.
In these few cases, the lights will turned off as soon as it is safe to do so once the event is
complete.
All intramural, club or recreational activities that use the stadium past 9:00 p.m. will be
canceled or rescheduled.
The lights will be controlled by the new timing system and a series of redundancies will be
used to ensure that they are off no later than 9:15 p.m. each night - and stay off.
For the remainder of the semester, the lights in the Stadium will not come on before 7:00 a.m.
each morning. We will evaluate this particular aspect again prior to the Fall Semester.
