The featured art exhibits are: Pewabic Pottery: The Gerald McNeely Collection, one of the largest private collections, recently donated to Cranbrook. Next, John Glick: A Legacy in Clay, a former Cranbrook student and famous Michigan potter. Lastly, Hippie Modernism: The Struggle for Utopia, a broad range of art forms and artifacts of the era. are clay displays by John Glick, pewabic pottery vases and others. We will break for lunch and anyone who wants to view the two special summer gardens at Cranbrook may return for a short tour. Invite your neighbors and friends. We will car pool from the church or you can meet us at Cranbrook. The cost is $10 ($8 seniors) plus lunch. You can sign up in Fellowship Hall or call the church office at (248)642-0200 to make a reservation.

Mission Trip Fun This year's team of youth had a life changing and faith building experience on their mission trip to Princeton, Illinois in June. The high schoolers of Northbrook worked on over 35 homes with 300 other youth from across the United States, not only making a difference on the homes, but in the lives of their residents too. Thank you so much to the Northbrook family of people that came out to support our fundraisers. Trips like these are not possible without you!

Cereal for Summer Collection The PWN group and PYCT Committee are collecting cereal for low income chil-dren in the Metro Detroit Area. This is because children who rely on free or re-duced cost lunches often go without enough to eat during the summer. Now through August 14, please bring your cereal donations to the church and place them in the basket in the main hallway. Please see Ken or Barb Stetson for any questions. Thanks for your support.

The Sundberg Family visited Northbrook in June, all the way from Nicaragua! We hope you were able to meet Autumn, Cassie and Renée when Pastor Renée Sundberg preached on Sunday, June 19. If you missed her sermon or would like to listen to it again, you can access it on the Northbrook website, www.northbrookpc.org under Celebrations/Sermons. While Renée and the girls were with us on Sunday morning, Justin, Jack and Ethan were attending service at The Kirk in the Hills, another congregation that also sponsors this mission co-worker’s service. It was delightful to meet this family of Presbyterians who really do live the love of Jesus Christ in the world. They really do appreciate the cards we send them for various holidays and celebrations, so keep your eyes and ears open for future card-signing opportunities.

Empty Bowls Collection Northbrook’s Empty Bowls Collection for the month of August will support Baby Basics of Troy, an

organization that supplies diapers and other baby essentials to low income families. Please contribute your

loose change in the bowl on the nametag table in the main hallway or drop off larger amounts or checks

(made out to Northbrook with notation for Empty Bowls/Baby Basics on the memo line) at the church office.

Thank you!

Freedom House Collection A big thank-you goes out to everyone who contributed items for the Freedom House collection in May and June. Thank you, Jennifer and Dominic Livernois for making the delivery for us.

Fort Street Open Door Winnie Davies-Hancock, Janet Evans, Tricia LaSota and Marjorie Wilhelmi made the journey to Open Door at Fort Street Presbyterian Church on June 30 to serve the morning meal. The next time a group will go from Northbrook will be on Thursday, September 29. The group will depart at 8:00 a.m. from the Northbrook parking lot, and our time of service will be followed by lunch in Detroit at a surprise location. For more information or to sign up, contact Seglinda Kelle-Pritchard at (248)626-6514.

Knit Wits Join us on Wednesdays, August 10 and August 24 at 7 p.m. All are welcome.

Senior Souper Supper Senior Souper Supper will take a break in August and resume in September.

Share Your Garden Bounty Are you a gardener or someone who appreciates delicious fruits and vegetables? If you wish to help fight hunger in our area this summer, then consider bringing some of your garden bounty or fresh produce from a market to help feed neighbors who are hungry or living on diets lacking enough fruits and vegetables. Bring the items to church and place them in the giant basket in the main hall or at outdoor worship. Please do not leave produce in a bag as it will speed spoilage. All produce will be delivered to The Baldwin Center in Pontiac. The food will either be used in their community meals program or made available to those served by the center.

We still have some spots in our preschool for next year so

please spread the word!!

Please tell your friends and neighbors about our wonderful

program.

Check out our website at www.northbrookpreschool.com.

Happy Anniversary

Northbrook Rose August is the last month of summer. We try to cram in all the things we did not do in June and July. Plus, we prepare our children for another school year. My new year always begins in September (retired school teacher) not January. This has not changed for me. So, Happy New Year to our Northbrook kids. Have a good one. Blessings to all of you. Live like this is Paradise on Earth Blessings from my house to your house, Rose May I urge all of us to pray for our country. Our America needs to be united, needs to heal and move forward. God Bless America. Work hard like you do not need money. Love like no one has ever hurt you. Dance like no one is watching. Sing like no one is listening.

Dearest Northbrook family, Your love and support during challenging times seems boundless! I am humbled by the many cards, phone calls, FOOD, flowers, and prayers...truly humbled. All the talented hands of the Knit Wits making the nurturing shawls that will continue to provide such warmth and comfort--all made with love and prayers. The encouraging presence of Marjorie and Sherrill during surgery...many thanks seems grossly inadequate...but I say it again from both Clyde and myself. This congregation knows how to Live the Love of Jesus Christ. As ever, Seglinda Kelle-Pritchard P.S. Keep those prayers coming....

* * * Thank you to my Northbrook family. I would like to thank you for all your support on the recent passing of Cliff. Thank you for all your cards and prayers. It meant a lot to the entire family. Marilyn Dean and Family
