2018 is a significant and important year for North
Royalton, our fellow alumni and actually, our ances-
tors. The Township of Royalton, Ohio, now the
City of North Royalton, was founded in 1818. In
2018, we will be celebrating North Royalton’s
Bicentennial Year! For 200 years, families have
been raising and educating their children in our town and have formed lasting
friendships and memories going back generations. This year, we are focusing
on our history and the many special things that make North Royalton so dear to
us, our families and friends. With this in mind, we invite you and other former
North Royalton students to use this time to plan to meet in North Royalton this
summer and partake in some of the community activities that will recognize
the two centuries of experiences that we shared in this, our special home town.
The City of North Royalton and the Chamber of Commerce are planning
Bicentennial events from July 28, 2018 through August 12, 2018. A good time
to come home! The North Royalton Alumni Association (NRAA) would like
to assist in bringing your group together in 2018. In addition, please join us
for our annual Alumni Social, this year being held at Carrie Cerino’s Restau-
rant in North Royalton, on Saturday May 5, 2018. We will be recognizing the
North Royalton Class of 1968 on their 50th reunion. This year our Alumni and
Faculty Awards will be given at the social on May 5th. This year’s Alumni
honoree is Tim Fowler, North Royalton Class of 1963. Also in May, the
NRAA will be awarding two $2,000.00 scholarships to deserving graduating
high school seniors.
There are no membership dues or fees to be a member of the NRAA. If you
would like to personally reach out to the North Royalton Alumni Association,
feel free to email either me, at [email protected] or Diana Skorepa at
[email protected]. We hope that you join us this year by participating in the
Alumni Association’s activities and help us reach out to other alumni of North
Royalton High School.
We hope to see you sometime this year!

Each year the Alumni Association elects new officers. This process begins with a Nominating Committee led by the immediate, past president and two other members approved by the Executive Board. This committee will be convened at the May Alumni Association meeting. Anyone interested in being a part of this committee should attend the May meeting.
The committee will meet to determine a “slate” of officers and will present it to the Executive Board during the July Alumni Association meeting. Immediately following this meeting, the “slate” of officers will be published on the alumni association website, our Facebook Page, and if possible, in the local newspapers.
Nominations of other nominees may be made “from the floor” at the August, Annual Membership Meeting. Voting for the Executive Board positions will occur during this meeting. New officers will be sworn in at the beginning of the September meeting.

The NRHS Alumni Association (NRHSAA) is your resource to
stay connected to your classmates in the future. There are many
ways in which NRHSAA is valuable to NORO graduates.
NRHSAA publishes an annual print newsletter that goes out to all
active NRHSAA members. This newsletter is filled with interest-
ing and valuable information. Reunion information is usually pub-
lished in this newsletter.
NRHSAA also publishes a monthly eNewsletter. This contains
current information and local activities that may be of interest to
our alumni. Regular get-togethers as well as reunion information
can be found in the monthly eNewsletter. If you would like infor-
mation included in the monthly eNewsletter, email Sean Osborne

NRHSAA maintains a database of Alumni contact information to
make reunion planning easier. The database for the Alumni
Association is only as good as the information it receives in up-
dates. Please email changes of your contact information to
Linda Pepke Neel, at [email protected] or call at 440-526-1158. The
database lists all classes from 1907 to present with well over 18,000
entries. When your class approaches your first reunion, reunion
organizers can request a list of your class’ contact information.

The Bell Tower is an important symbol of North Royalton High School history. The bell would ring in a new school day and help celebrate football victories. The bell was part of the Royalton Road High School that was torn down in 1972. You can become part of Bell Tower history and permanently add your mark on school grounds by ordering an engraved brick to support the Bell Tower Project. They also make great gifts, are a way to remember a deceased loved one, retired teacher or staff member, and honor a recent or upcoming graduate. Businesses, organizations and clubs can also help sup-port a brick engraving. Just fill out the form below.

The North Royalton Alumni Association’s Spring Social is an event filled with tra-dition, remembrance, and celebration! Each year, North Royalton alumni gather for an evening of sharing fond memories, good food and enlightening conversa-tions. This year promises a special recognition for the Class of 1968 which is cele-brating their 50th year reunion. Sharing this historical moment with fellow grad-uates has placed the NRAA Social as one of the must-attend events of the year. If you have never attended this annual event, we encourage all alumni and friends to come and mingle with fellow alumni, past administration and alumni leaders. This year’s event will be held at Carrie Cerino’s on May 5, 2018 at 6:oo p.m. This event supports the NRAA Scholarship Program providing two $2,000 scholarships for two 2018 graduates of NRHS. Donations are greatly appreciated! Come and celebrate with your fellow alumni at this very worthwhile evening by using the registration form or con-tacting Tim Fowler ‘63.

Dear Alumni, I hope this newsletter finds you well and looking forward to spring! I know it has not been an easy winter and the amount of calamity days that we have used has far exceeded what we usually have. I am hopeful for a nice warm spring that will allow all of our spring sports and other events to occur with-
out much interference from mother nature! A great deal of events, activities and developments have oc-curred so far during the 2017-2018 school year. So many of our achievements in the classroom and out in the community are highlighted in our district’s Bear Way digital magazine, monthly e-newsletters, and other communications. All of these are archived on our website at www.northroyaltonsd.org/PublicInformation.aspx.
Our theme of “Inspire Great” is still alive and growing as we continue to chronicle activities that occur in our classrooms, on the stage, and on the field. I could never have imagined last year, when we introduced this, that so many people would be following all the events that occur and that it would grow like it has. #NRInspireGreat is filled with stories, pictures and descrip-tions of things that are happening in our schools each and every day. By following your principal or teacher (or me @gurkag), you will see first hand the creativity of our staff and students on a daily basis. North Royalton City Schools continues to “Build a Strong Foun-dation in Education and Facilities” as we are fully engaged in the programming and schematic design phase of the project. The first step was the visioning process which has now led us to working with the educators to begin the design of the educa-
tional spaces. One of the highlights of the visioning session on September 14, with more than 120 individuals from the com-munity, was hearing from the middle school and high school students who were in attendance. Their insights, thoughts and "real-time" information was greatly appreciated. I also have met with students at each of the three elementary schools to talk about what they think should be part of the new building and what programs they would like to see. ThenDesign Archi-tecture (TDA) and administrators are focused right now on the scope of the elementary and high school project. Once those are well established, attention will turn to the middle school renovations. We have met with all of the individual building PTAs, as well as our elementary staff and high school science department, to discuss the design process and the needs of the instructional spaces. We held our first community meeting in January to outline the project so far and get input from our residents into the design process. Our residents were able to hear and discuss the pro-gress and provide input into the design of the exterior of the facilities. ThenDesign Architecture (TDA) did an excellent job leading the discussion and taking note of all the ideas and sug-gestions that were presented by our community. As we have moved from the schematic design phase to the design develop-ment phase, TDA has been working with our administrations and staff to provide specifics to the design of the classrooms and instructional spaces. Please look for another community meeting to share this information coming in the spring! On behalf of the Board of Education, our staff, and our stu-dents, we wish you happiness and health in 2018. Go Bears! Greg Gurka Superintendent North Royalton City Schools
Sean Osborne ‘89 Principal Dear Alumni,
It is with a feeling of great honor and pride that I serve as the principal of North Royalton High School. This is a special place that feels like home to its students and staff, shown by the many alumni who have re-turned to work at NRHS. I look forward to serving our school and community for many years to come.
The faculty and staff are proud of our students and the successes these students find both during and after their time at NRHS. Our high school family continues to provide excellent opportunities for students to
become exposed to ideas and to foster interests that students develop during their years of school.
Nearly 90 percent of our 2017 graduates continued their education at a two or four year college, dozens of seniors successfully completed certificate programs at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center and several chose to proudly serve our country in the armed services, including one at The United States Military Academy at West Point.
Our arts and athletic programs continue to provide quality opportunities for our many talented students. Once again, our march-ing band scored a superior rating at the OMEA State Band Competition, making it 28 years in a row that they have scored the highest rating possible. Our football team brought the Golden Shoe home to its proper place by beating Brecksville 27-12. Our Visual Arts department added a public art show last year to showcase our many artists.
The big news for NRHS was the passage of a bond issue by our community for the purposes of renovating and rebuilding the high school and building a new unified elementary school. As we work through the design and planning phase of the high school pro-ject, I find the process bittersweet. While we will be able to build and renovate facilities to a level that matches the quality in-struction that our teachers provide, it comes at a cost historically, with some of the older parts of the school slated to be razed at the conclusion of the process. Please know that we will do our best to preserve the history of your school whether you remember it as E.E. Root or NRHS.
I know that North Royalton is a special place and I hope you will take time to come back and visit. I look forward to seeing you at one of our concerts, plays or sporting events here at NRHS. I hope you have a great 2018.

North Royalton Alumni Association Spring 2018 Appeal
Dear Fellow Alumni,
Some of the most intense memories of our life came from our high school years at North Royalton High. Hopefully,
most of them are cherished good memories that we will often think about as we grow in wisdom and age. The North
Royalton Alumni Association wants to impart upon our recent and soon to be graduates a sense of home when they re-
call their years in North Royalton High School. Every generation of NRHS graduates has a home in the North Royalton
Alumni Association. Our basic mission has been:
To aid and encourage North Royalton High School students in the benefits of a higher education;
To encourage the Alumni of North Royalton High School to join together to raise funds to help students with
scholarships;
To preserve the history of the school and of the alumni for the benefit of future generations.
As spring approaches, we are focusing on our upcoming graduates of the Class of 2018 and those alumni who will be
holding reunions this year. For the upcoming graduates, we have increased our annual scholarship and we are improv-
ing our computer software capabilities to increase our effective and secure communications with our members. This sys-
tem will allow us to better serve reunion groups with planning and improve our communication with all of our members.
We need your financial help to further improve our alumni association. This is the one campaign that we ask for your
financial assistance. We have abolished membership fees in an effort to be more inclusive in including all NRHS grad-
uates in our association. We encourage you to help support our efforts to continually improve by making a tax-
deductible gift to the North Royalton Alumni Association.
Please join our campaign to help make our future endeavors a success, preserve our history, and to move forward for
the benefit of future alumni by making a donation to our Spring Fund Drive!
Donors will be recognized in future newsletters and electronic publications.
**We are an IRS 501(c)(3) organization. Your gift is tax-deductible.**
