Dr. Lewis Cummings, a Houston native, graduated from dental school at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He continued his education with a residency in periodontics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Lincoln, where he earned a Masters of Science in Oral Biology. Throughout his residency, Dr. Cummings received advanced training in dental implants, hard tissue grafting and oral plastic surgery. While in Lincoln,
Dr. Cummings began research in tissue engineering and now lectures internationally in this eld. In conjunction with lecturing, Dr. Cummings teaches advanced surgical courses on hard and soft tissue regenerative techniques for oral rehabilitation utilizing both dental implants and natural teeth. Currently, he maintains a progressive periodontal practice in Kingwood, Texas, treating traditional periodontal disease with a special emphasis on minimally invasive techniques for oral rehabilitation and dental implant therapy. Additionally, he holds associate clinical professor positions with both the University of Texas Dental School at Houston and the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Lincoln, teaching soft tissue graft and dental implant surgical techniques in the post-graduate programs. He is also an instructor for the American Institute of Implant Dentistry in Washington, DC, teaching advanced periodontal plastic surgery and dental implant procedures to dentists from around the world.
Pedro M. Trejo DDS, MS is a dual specialist in Prosthodontics and Periodontics. He received his Certi cate in Prosthodontics from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, and his Certi cate and Master Degree in Periodontics from The University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston, Texas. He has treated numerous cases involving virtual/guided implant surgeries and published on the subject. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and holds a Clinical Associate Professor position in
the Department of Periodontology at The University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston. SOFT TISSUE ENGINEERING FOR OPTIMAL ESTHETICSLewis Cummings, M.S., D.D.S. Course DescriptionThis lecture will discuss the rationale and practical application of soft tissue augmentation procedures. Principles of successful soft tissue augmentation, to include minimally invasive surgical techniques will be reviewed. Soft tissue grafting options and donor tissue resources, their advantages and disadvantages will be examined. Clinicians will also learn how these techniques can be utilized to enhance socket grafting and implant site development procedures. Current research ndings, clinical experience and scienti c evidence will be presented to support the materials and techniques demonstrated throughout the course.
NEW DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES & COMPUTER GUIDED IMPLANT THERAPY In the Daily PracticePedro M. Trejo, DDS, MS Course DescriptionThe ½ day seminar is recommended for those interested in expanding their knowledge in computer assisted implant surgery. The purpose is to provide the participant with the necessary information to apply computer guided implant therapy and other digital technologies in his/her practice. The seminar will familiarize the participant with the Nobel Clinician software and it will demonstrate its advantages.
Course ObjectivesThree-dimensional assessment of hard structures, particularly potential implant sites, is now possible due to the advent of Cone-Beam radiography. The course will examine how visual volumetric assessments improve the clinician’s diagnostic abilities, while also indicating or contra-indicating implants and implant related treatment.
The lecture will be divided in three major topics in which new digital technologies will be demonstrated:
1) CBCT and the NobelClinician software diagnostics advantages.
2) STL guides to facilitate implants in the aesthetic zone. Application of the angled channel abutment and of “Fusion” of Dicom data sets.
3) The implant supported xed hybrid bridge, an elegant prosthetic option for the severely compromised dentition. Immediate loading of multiple implants, a different point of view.
After the lecture, the participant will understand and should be able to integrate the following concepts into their practices:
• The NobelClinician software advantages, new technologies and work ow for implant dentistry.
• Recognize indications for computer guided implant surgery.
• Implement the clinical steps required to execute precise implant placement using stereolithographic guides (STL).
• In addition, the course will identify the challenges when utilizing STL-guided surgery Soft tissue management Irregular bone anatomy Tooling, cooling, etc. STL tting and seating Free-hand placement as an exit strategy Biomechanical considerations to avoid restorative complications
