What is the Small Grant Program (R03)?
The aim is to “support small research projects that can be carried out in a short period of time with limited resources.”
Type of projects funded by the R03 mechanism include (but are not limited to): Pilot or feasibility studies Secondary analysis of existing data Small, self-contained research projects Development of research methodology Development of new research technology
Things to note
Maximum budget period: 2 years R03 cannot be renewed One resubmission is allowed Maximum budget request: $50,000 direct
costs per year Preliminary data not required but may be
included if available. A doctoral student may not apply for an R03
grant to support thesis or dissertation research.

NIMHD does not use the R03 mechanism
