Are you thinking about, or already training for, a career in
healthcare or social work? NHS Bursary funding is available to help
you whilst you are on an eligible NHS commissioned training course
in England. ( Medical/dental students, whose country of residence
is England, receive funding in the later stages of their training
irrespective of which UK country their medical school is situated
in. ) Social Work Bursary funding is available to help you whilst
you are on undergraduate/postgraduate social work training courses
in England. ( Social Work Bursaries are subject to capping
allocations which are managed by the universities/colleges. ) NHS
and Social Work Bursaries do not have to be repaid after you
complete your course.

When is the NHS Bursary available? You must be accepted for an
NHS commissioned/funded place on a full or part-time course which
leads to professional registration as one of these: doctor or
dentist (NHS Bursary eligibility is from the second year of study
for graduate entry programmes and the fifth year of study for
undergraduate programmes ) podiatrist/chiropodist dietician
occupational therapist orthoptist physiotherapist prosthetist and
orthotist radiographer speech and language therapist dental
hygienist or dental therapist nurse midwife operating department
practitioner

When is the Social Work Bursary available? Undergraduate
students included in the capping allocation are funded from their
second year of training and receive a Placement Travel Allowance
(PTA). Postgraduate students included in the capping allocation are
funded from their first year, receive the PTA and can apply for
additional allowances: Adult Dependants Allowance Childcare
Allowance Parents Learning Allowance Disabled Student Allowance
Eligible students not included in capping allocations can apply for
the PTA.
