Ollie’s Anniversary
EDAG Round 3

EDAG Round 3
Royal Commonwealth Pool Edinburgh Sixty-five Swim West Lothian swimmers attended EDAG Round 3 from across all the squads with 267 swims over 2 days of competition. There were 185 PB’s, from a massive 82% of swims, and we had relay teams from Bathgate, Fauldhouse, Trojan and LDD competing. A great Performance all round. See page 3 for further details:
Apologies for missing Shannon Paterson from the list of athletes attending the Scottish National
Short Course Championships in December 2014.
Ollie’s Anniversary #BLUEANDYELLOW Congratulations to our Performance Development Coach, Oliver Waddington who has now been with the programme for a year, as of the 6 January 2015. Not only has he helped steady the ship through that time but he’s begun to help put wind in the sails, developing 5 athletes into Performance group swimmers. He has continued to push forward the performances of our SNAG’s finalists and medallists in PD as well as helping more and more of the group qualify for this year’s event. Ollie attended the Tenerife T3 training camp with us where he was fantastic, that effort culminated in awesome performances for SWL athletes at both British and Welsh Summer Nationals. He has taken the lead role on the Skill Development Days that SWL provide to member clubs in order to develop and inspire the next generation of SWL athletes. Ollie has developed into a critical member of the Coaching team over the year and we look forward to many more with him driving high performance in West Lothian as part of our Team. He says he cut himself shaving the other day and was surprised to see he actually bled blue, then some yellow!
Here he is in action at the West District Grand Prix

Squad Updates
Junior Performance Development JPD have enjoyed their Christmas and New Year break. They are now back to full training in preparation for the schools finals, Carnegie meet and First open meet. They also enjoyed a trip to the cinema before Christmas. Congratulations to Alasdair Dunse and Karen Heath on their move to PD! Well done this is a well deserved achievement. They will both be missed by the squad, but we wish them well. Results from EDAG – Weekend of 10
th & 11
th January saw 21 swimmers from JPD attend the 3
rd
round of East districts at Edinburgh’s commonwealth pool. This was the first time competing in a long course pool for many of the swimmers. All swimmers achieved PB’s over the weekend. Special mention to the following swimmers who all made finals: John Kean – 100m Breast (8
th);
Karen Heath – 100 Fly (5th); Joseph Brownlie – 100 Back (7

good work. Swimmers celebrating birthdays in January are: Anna Law (13), Eilidh Calder (12), Ellie Hume (11), Penny Moffat (12) and Joseph Brownlie (12) Jayne Parker
Happy Birthday National Potential! National Potential are officially one year old this week! And what a difference a year makes; we now are a squad that has doubled in size and whilst we have said goodbye to a few faces, we have welcomed a lot more into the SWL fold! National Potential has enabled older club swimmers who have been assessed as showing sprint distance potential, and swim-mers who wish to specialise within SWL, opportunity to train and compete in more specific and focused events, adding to the West Lothian success in the pool. Over the past year we have represented West Lothian alongside other squads at District and National events at both Age Group and Masters level. Thank you to all the swimmers involved since January 2014 for their dedication, patience and participation as we have devel-oped the squad programme including all the challenges that has brought (including no pool sometimes!) .
Here's looking to an even better second year! Jenny McCabe

easyfundraising raising funds for SWL Using the easyfundraising site for on-line shopping is an easy way for parents and family to raise funds for SWL. To date we have raised over £70 from the site but we could raise so much more if parents register and visit the site every time before they buy on-line. All you need to do is register with the easyfundraising site and then search for retailers via the site. Every time you access a retailer and then buy on-line you raise money for SWL. Lots of our local shops like Marks and Spencer, Asda, Debenhams, Argos and many more like Apple, iTunes, Amazon, Book People are all members. So when you are shopping remember to shop via the easyfundraising site. Three easy steps to getting started: 1. Access the website via http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/swl 2. Enter - Create an Account (green button at the top if the page). Choose a good cause - you type Swim West Lothian and select Enter Personal Details. 3. Then shop!
