Session Highlights
May 11, 2015
It was with great joy that the Session received the
2015 Confirmation Class. The two Confirmands,
received by Profession of Faith in Jesus Christ,
were Corah Jade Hawk and Ruby Grace
Waggoner, both in the Seventh Grade at the Junior
High School and longtime participants in many
ministries through Hill Church. Corahs parents are Dennis and Sarah Hawk and Rubys parents are Michael and Mary Waggoner. We pray Gods Blessing upon Corah and Ruby as they grow in
Christs faith, hope and love! Two motions were approved by Session from
the Administration and Stewardship And Mission
Support Committees respectively:
Motion: That nine stained glass windows plus one
panel of the Gethsemane window be repaired by
Standard Insulating at an approximate cost of
$11,358. This cost includes recapping the new
storm windows as needed. The funding will be
taken from a special campaign and the stained
glass window fund ($5,041.54). If additional
funding is needed, funds will be taken from a
combination of the Building Maintenance Fund,
the Sherwin estate Fund, and the Memorial Fund,
as determined by the Stewardship Committee.
Motion: To give 40% of the Pentecost
denominational offering to Butler County Alliance
for Children to be used to provide services
designed to reduce the trauma of children who
have been victims of child abuse.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Members and Friends of
the Hill United Presbyterian Church:
Another one of the International Missions that we support
and pray for is the ministry of Barry and Shelly Dawson. Here
are some excerpts of a letter from Barry and Shelly Dawson in
serving as Regional Liaisons for Southeast Asia, based in
Thailand. March 2015 - growing future leaders in Myanmar
(formerly Burma):
Dear Friends and Mission Partners,
Twenty-two years ago in a remote village in northern
Myanmar a baby boy named Bawi was born into a Christian
home. As he grew older his parents shared stories of Gods love with him and, as he told us, I believed that Jesus is my Savior, and He died for me. I believed from my childhood, and I
decided to serve God. Like many citizens of Myanmar whose family roots are found in isolated hamlets and rural landscapes,
Bawis parents could not financially support him to follow his call to Christian ministry. But, I did not give up, he says in a tone that reveals a resilient faith. I prayed to God, and my prayer was answered to be able to study here. Sometimes when I
face difficulties, I pray to God. I know that God can do
anything. Bawi was one of many Tahan Theological College (TTC) students we met in late February when we traveled to
Kalaymyo, in the northwest corner of Myanmar, about 80 miles
from the border with the Mizoram state of northeast India. While
TTC continues to be closely affiliated with and financially
supported by the Presbyterian Church of Myanmar, the global
financial crisis of 2008 caused the school to develop additional
revenue sources through creating ecumenical partnerships and
launching innovative projects on campus. Yet despite their
innovative efforts, TTC still has many students who struggle to
pay the annual costs of approximately $500 (USD equivalent) for
tuition, room, and board. Invitation to Partner with Us in
Mission: We invite you to pray for us, learn about the joys and
challenges facing Christians in this region, and give generously
to help us raise the financial support that is needed for us to serve
as mission co-workers. Your expression of partnership and
tangible gifts are vitally important for us to continue building
mission connections and for working to empower a new
generation of leaders for Christs church in Southeast Asia, leaders like those passionate students whose stories inspire us at
Tahan Theological College in Myanmar. Our Mission
Interpretation Schedule in the U.S.A. in 2015: We will be in the
United States for approximately three months (June, July,
August) in 2015 to speak to churches, as well as meet with
mission committees, pastors, and individuals who are interested
in learning more about Christs mission in Southeast Asia. Please contact us at [email protected] for more information
about us visiting your church this summer. In Christs Joy, Barry and Shelly.

GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE REPORT
On April 30 we received a letter from Edith Delsi Geyevu, a student at Keta Business
College in Keta, Ghana. She is one of the 46 students granted scholarships this school
year. Keta is located about 85 miles East of Accra. It is on the ocean side of a large lagoon and about
15 miles from the Togo border. She said that she was very grateful to be able to write to us. Edith
said, I hope by the grace of the Almighty you are doing well. I thank you all for your kindness and
your donation. May God richly bless you all. I was born on November 19, 1995. I am the first born of
my parents with only one brother. I am a student at Keta Business College. Becoming a nurse is my
aim.
My mother is Mabel Tefli Ntianyo and my father is Nal Geyevu, both Ghanaians. My mother is a
single parent, meaning my father died and my mother was the only person caring for me. Before I was
admitted into senior high school, my uncle, the brother of my father, also assisted my mother in some
financial ways. He is the one I am staying with while going to school as a day student.
I am very grateful about the great and wonderful things you are doing for me. Im very thankful that in all your losses, God will provide them for you and strengthen you and give you more grace to help me
and other needy people as well.
In my studies I am doing quite well, but my studies in mathematics is the most problem I am facing. By
the grace of God it will be OK. The Sister says with God, all things are possible. I am a candidate for
this years examination. I pray that God should grant me examination fervor and help me to pass successfully. Amen. And that the peace of God which surpasses all understandings will guard your
hearts and minds in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
May God richly bless you all and provide all your losses to you. May the Grace of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the love of God and the sweet fellowship of the Holy Ghost be with us now and forever. Amen.
Please continue to keep the Bubiashie District churches, Bernard Daddy, chairperson of the Bubiashie
Scholarship Committee, as well as the students, and Joshua Heikkila, the West Africa Liaison for the
PC(USA), in your prayers.

Every year Hill Church is asked to support the work of the Beaver-Butler Presbytery, the Synod of the
Trinity and the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA. This support is made through a per
-capita assessment of church members. This assessment has been used for over 150 years to fund the
essential work of the Presbyterian Church.
As we have done in past years, we are inviting members to the Hill Church family of faith to contribute
to the support of the shared work of the Presbyterian Church USA. The per-capita assessment for 2015
is $39.93 per member which includes all those who have been baptized and have made their profession
of faith. For example, a single member would contribute $39.93, a couple who are both members
would contribute $79.86, a couple with one confirmed child would contribute $119.79 and so on.
For your convenience in making this offering, a special blue envelope has been included in your
regular box of envelopes, appearing between the January 25th and the February 1st envelopes. Or you
may mark the memo line of your check per-capita and this offering will be properly credited to your giving statement.
As of 5/26/15 we have collected $3,972.92. Thank you for your continued
generosity and support.

Update from the Forward in Faith Task Force The Forward in Faith Task Force was commissioned by the Session to develop suggestions for a long term plan
for Hill Churchs ministries and programs. Its work is a continuation of assessment and planning efforts that started with the 2002 Ministry Audit and continued with the 2008 Special Committee.
In May 2002, a ministry audit of Hill Church was completed by Easum Bandy and Associates. The Session used
information from this audit to (1) develop mission, vision and values statements for Hill Church, (2) further develop
and refine an alternative Saturday evening worship service, (3) consider ways to address the need for additional
parking, (4) evaluate the number of staff and their roles within the church and (5) identify ways to improve ministries
for children and teens.
In 2008, a congregational survey developed by the Special Committee of Session was distributed to Hill Church
members. The Session used information and suggestions from that survey to (1) address issues around church
maintenance and cleanliness, (2) prioritize and balance mission projects and mission support, (3) identify the need for
additional small group ministries, (4) improve the church website, (5) update the church directory, (6) utilize paid
caregivers in the church nursery, (7) develop a plan to update the church membership roll, and (8) re-evaluate the
number of staff and their roles within Hill Church.
The Forward in Faith Task Force has met six times. It is finalizing the congregational survey which will be
mailed in early June. Focus groups on specific topics raised in the survey will be scheduled later this summer.
Forward in Faith Task Force Members include: Tommy Walters, Laraine McCrea, Pat Brennen, Lauren
McElhaney, Barb Graham, Peg Dumbaugh, Patti Donaldson, Cathy Zarnick, Anne Miller, the Rev. Clark Sawyer,
and Louise Evans. They are more than willing to answer your questions about the congregational survey or focus
groups or listen if you have special concerns.

Wisdom is as good as an inheritance, an advantage to those who see the sun. For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to the one who possesses it.
There are a few changes for the Vacation Christian Camps. Please note that Sports Camp One on
Tuesday, June 16th will be held from 1:30pm-5:30pm at Alameda Park. The children will need to
have lunch prior to coming to Church where they will be driven over to Alameda Park by the Camp
Leaders. The cost of the camp is still $5. Gods Great Creation will now be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, June 15-17 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This camp will include dinner and due to Marsh
Millers generosity, the children will not have a registration fee. Those children participating in Sports Camp One are encouraged to stay for Gods Great Creation! The Camp Leaders will bring the children over to the Jaycee Shelter following the Sports Camp. If you have any questions, please contact Elean Heist in the Church
Office.
