Introduction
Duetotheexceptionalnatureofitscollectionsandhistory,theMuseodelPradoistheprincipaldestinationforculturaltourism in Madrid and an essential one for all Spanish andforeigntouristsvisitingthecity.
OneofthegoalsestablishedintheMuseum’s2013-2016Ac-tion Plan, as set out in its “Visitor” programme, is that ofencouragingand increasingvisitorfidelity levels.Tohelp itachievethisaimtheMuseumisbenefitingfromthesupportofTelefónicaasaBenefactorSponsorofthePrado.
Withthisaiminmindandawareofthegrowingdemandfornew and different cultural experiences on the part of thevisiting public, while also taking into account the require-mentsoftouristagencieswhichincludetheMuseumamongitsactivitiesofferedtoclients,thePradohasimplementedaseriesofmeasuresintendedtoincreasevisitingoptionsandbenefitswhenacquiringanddistributingticketsandtoim-proveavisittotheMuseumingeneral.Ithasthusintroducednewtickettypesandtermsandconditionsofentry,whichareadaptedtoanevermorediversevisitingpublic,allofthem,however, focusing on art and on the Museum’s PermanentCollectionanditstemporaryexhibitions.
Thesenewentrytypes,togetherwiththepre-existingones(standard,reducedpriceandfreetickets),theincreaseinvi-siting hours (362 days a year, with the Museum open everydayoftheweek),inadditiontotheoptionofbookingprivatevisitsandeventswhiletheMuseumisclosedtothepublic,alladdtotheavailableoptionswiththeresultthatvisitorsofalltypes,whetherindividualsorgroups,willencountertheidealwaytovisitthePrado.

Thesevisitsareaimedatgroupsofbetween12and30peoplewishingtoenjoyadifferentandexclusivevisitingexperience,accompaniedbytheirownguide.

Ticket prices for group visits to the temporary exhibitionsarethesameasthosealreadyexistingforgroupvisitstothePermanent Collection. The maximum group size will befrom 12 to 20 people, depending on the characteristics ofeachexhibition.

GoyaarrivedinMadridinJanuary1775toparticipateinthecreation of cartoons for tapestries for the Spanish RoyalResidences, a project directed by Anton Raphael Mengs,first court painter and artistic director of the Royal SantaBarbaraTapestry Manufactory. It was not until some yearslater,however,thatGoyaachievedsuccessatcourtwithhisappointmentaspaintertotheKingin1786,followedbythatofjointfirstcourtpainterwithMaellain1799.
Goyawascommissionedtoproducesevenseriesofcartoonsonsubjectsthatreflectedthevarietyofpopularlifeandcus-tomsinSpainoftheday,reflectedinjoyfulscenesdepictingpastimes, games, children and public holidays and celebra-tions,aswellasothersonthemesofviolence,deceptionandmelancholyinwhichdesireandseductionunderlieeverydaylife.InthesescenesGoyaconveyedawiderangeofemotionsthrough his remarkable ability to capture the variety andcomplexityofhumantypes,maleandfemaledressandthehiddennuanceswithinnumerousdifferentsituations.
The present exhibition displays Goya’s cartoons alongsidethoseofotherartistsandalsoincludespaintingsandsculptu-resthatinfluencedhiminthecreationofthesehighlyinno-vativeworks.Goyadidnotconceiveofthetapestrycartoonsasaminorgenrebut ratherasametaphorical reflectionofsociety,andassuchtheyfunctionedasthebasisforthesub-sequent creations through which he achieved fame and re-nown,suchastheetchingsseriesLos Caprichos.

Duringthespringandsummerof2015,theMuseodelPra-dowillbeexhibitingtenmasterpiecesbyPabloPicassofromthecollectionoftheKunstmuseumBaselduringtheperiodwhenthatmuseumisclosedforalterations.Datingbetween1906and1967,thesetenworkswillconstituteasmallretros-pectiveontheartist,tobedisplayedintheCentralGalleryoftheVillanuevaBuildingalongsidemasterpiecesfromtheMuseum’sPermanentCollection.

LuisdeMoraleswasoneofthemostuniqueandrecognisableartistsoftheSpanishRenaissanceandakeyreferencepointin painting in Extremadura during the second half of the16thcentury.Moraleswasnotedforhisdistinctivestyle, inthemannerofanartistic“trademark”,which is referredtoinmanyinventoriesofcollections.HisworksaretobeseeninnumerousSpanishandinternationalmuseumsandcollec-tions. Morales’s most celebrated works were widely disse-minatedduetotheexistenceofhisworkshopandthroughrepetitions by other painters and followers. Only El Grecofromaround1585canbeseenasacomparablephenomenonofartisticdisseminationandcommercialsuccessinSpain.
ThisexhibitionreassessesthelifeandworkofLuisdeMo-ralesalmostacenturyaftertheMuseumpresentedthefirstmonographicexhibitionontheartist.ThePradohas23pa-nels by this artist and his workshop: a number and qualitythatmakesthisthemostimportantcollectionofthepainter’swork.Asaresult,thisexhibitionwillofferauniqueopportu-nitytostudyMorales’sbestknownandmostcelebratedcom-positions,particularlythoseofadevotionalnature.

TheworkofIngres,withitsseeminglyacademicnature,un-doubtedlyrepresentsalandmarkontheroadtotheartisticrevolutionsofthelate19thandearly20thcenturies.Theheirto Raphael and Poussin, Ingres’s work anticipates both Pi-cassoandtheconceptofanatomicaldistortionandwasthesourceofinspirationfortherethinkingofartundertakenbythe19th-centuryEuropeanschools,particularlyinSpain.
Thisexhibition, tobeorganisedandpresentedbytheMu-seo del Prado in 2015 with the special collaboration of theLouvre, will present a rigorous chronological survey of thework of Ingres. It will also pay particular attention to hiscomplex relationship with portraiture. Determined by hisantipathytowardsandadmirationforthegenre,thisaspectofhisoutputwillbejuxtaposedwithIngres’constantdesiretobeprimarilyrecognisedasahistorypainter.
