Can you believesummer is almostover? Thissummer I grewway too manyzucchini (oneplant) and toomany cherrytomatoes (also
one plant). My rose garden is stillgorgeous and I have more blooms everyday. So what does any of this have to dowith ASG and sewing? Nothing. And I didnothing about sewing my chapterchallenge! Dust has been collecting onmy sewing machine. It’s been too hot tosew at my house, so I’ve been in my poolevery day. I’m a bad president!
However, your CAB has been planningour next annual meeting, Oct. 14, 2017.Look for information inside! You’ll want tocome. Not only will there be the vestchallenge and great food provided byChapter members, but also a 'What WasI Thinking' table and, back by populardemand, the “Donate Your Stash”yardage sale. Up to $500 of the sale’sproceeds will be donated to our ASGscholarship fund at Mesa College. Ofcourse you’ll donate your fabric and buy, buy, buy lots of fabric at $2 a yard. I can’t
wait to see all the great donations, andsee what I absolutely must have andclean out my stash at the same time.
We have CAB elections too. Besides me,there are three candidates that haveaccepted the call. These members are fullof vim and vigor. Come to the meetingand vote for our newest CAB members.
We have updated and approved ourStanding Rules, and have added a newappointed position to the CAB --Member-at-Large. Rhoda Keegan hasaccepted the position. Contact Rhoda ifyou want to have anything discussed ata CAB meeting, or whatever. I rely onRhoda for information about the oldhappenings on the CAB and in theChapter. Rhoda was kind enough to go inmy place to the ASG Convention inJuly. Thank you Rhoda. I couldn’t go dueto medical testing.
I hope you all will attend the annualmeeting and, if we haven't met, come upto introduce yourselves. I’m lookingforward to seeing each vest and having agreat meal with all.
Happy sewing,Jan

Slate of 2018 Candidates!
Jan Steffen Position: Chapter PresidentI began to sew at age 11 in order to have clothes that fit. I have taughtsewing, draping and quilting. My Master’s degree is in adult education. Ihave been a member of our chapter for 7 years, and have served as NGleader for the San Marcos group, as newsletter editor, and as currentpresident. I have served on many boards at local, state and national levels. At the Fallbrook Quilt Guild I was vice president, editor, and rep for the So.Ca. Council of Quilt Guilds. Later I was editor for the So. Ca. Council of QuiltGuilds. I served at all board levels (except president) for Tall Club of OrangeCounty, and as editor for Tall Club International.
Kathy Scott Position: Vice President, MembershipI have been sewing since grade school, starting with doll clothes made ofleftover scraps from my mother’s sewing. Being of short stature, I learnedearly-on how to shorten RTW dresses and pants to fit me. When I startedsewing my own clothes in high school, Mom would alter the pattern on mebefore I cut out the garment. Who knew she was “tissue fitting”! I have beena member of San Diego ASG since 1990 and am a past Membership Chair. Before retiring I was a Clinical Research Associate in Oncology at RadyChildren’s Hospital. I also served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a MedicalLab Tech. Wherever I have gone, I have always taken my sewing machine!
Pam Bechill Position: SecretaryI am an artist residing in Oceanside with my husband Bob and 2 cats. Ibegan sewing by making stuff from Mom’s scraps. My favorite medium isany art I can do with my hands. I especially love the fabric arts, and havebeen working at my craft for the past 65 years. My passion is prowling yardsales and thrift stores for gently used men's dress shirts. Through a littlecreativity, some great Gingher scissors, and a hard-working Bernina sewingmachine, I'm able to transform these shirts into upcycled fashion pieces. Ihave been a member of ASG for many years throughout California. Formore information, please contact me at [email protected].
Judy Hollis Position: TreasurerI joined ASG several years ago when I came back to sewing after a verylong hiatus. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and workedin financial management for the Navy until I retired. I have held variouspositions on the boards of the San Diego Creative Weavers’ Guild and thePalomar Handweavers and Spinners Guild. I have enjoyed being part of theSan Marcos and Poway neighborhood groups and would now like to take amore active part in chapter activities.
