The National Council on Education (NCE) is astatutory body established in 1993, as anational organization strategically positionedto address a wide range of issues which impactthe education process.
VISION “The National Council on Educationenvisions that through its efforts and those ofits partners the learners of Jamaica will haveaccess to services which will ultimatelyenable them to realize their full potential andbecome productive, culturally aware, ethicaland worthwhile citizens who are globallycompetitive.”
MISSION
“To provide leadership in stimulating,advising and promoting consensus in thedevelopment of educational policies tosupport the nation’s pursuit of acomprehensive, coherent and consistentsystem of education.”
NATIONAL COUNCIL ON EDUCATION
The Council has three strategic objectives directly related to its legislative mandate:

To promote good corporate governancewithin schools and facilitate improvedstudent outcomes;
To facilitate the delivery of timely, accurateand relevant information to support effectiveplanning, policy development and decisionmaking within the Education System;

To increase the awareness of keystakeholders and the general publicregarding the role and functions of the NCEand garner more support for the educationsector as a whole.

The Council scans the external environment andand identifies emerging issues within theeducational landscape and develops issuespaper to advise the HME.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT Undertake research in connection with
its functions and publish or otherwise disseminate the findings of such research;

The strategies being pursued include;
the timely appointment of schoolboards.

NOMINATING SCHOOL BOARDS
Nominate for appointment, members of
boards of public educational institutions.
School boards are appointed on a cyclical
basis based on educational regions.

RECOGNITION OF SERVICE In recognition of service in the field of
education in Jamaica, make such awards as it thinks fit to persons selected by the Council in accordance with criteria approved by the Minister.
