  • Ashok Gupta It has been widely recognized that regular contact with

plants and natural environment can improve our physicaland mental wellbeing. When we grow flowers, we engageour self with natural world at a pace that provides a wel-come antidote to relieve our self from the stress of mod-ern life. For a large number of people living in our socie-ty especially children and adults suffer with challenges ofphysical and mental health problems. Gardening can bebeneficial for them as such activities can relieve the symp-toms of serious illness, prevent the development of stressproblems by introducing people to a way of life that canhelp them to improve their mental wellbeing in the longerterm.

And if you are feeling good, gardening is well, just anice thing to do.

Gardening is a full fledge profession that deserves theattention of health professionals, spatial planners and oth-er policy makers who are well versed with the techniquesand benefits to make it possible for people to participatein gardening related activities. It is required that greenspaces should be created to make it easy for people toparticipate in gardening. This also necessitates for plan-ning and development authorities as well as land ownerssuch as housing developers to make land available for thepeople so that they can enjoy the leisure of gardening.

    BENEFITS OF GARDENS AND GARDENING

Stress and stress-related illness are dramaticallyincreasing worldwide and they have also paced a largespace in our society. The migration of children to foreigncountries for job and other assignments have created iso-lation for their parents and elders which has added lot ofstress related diseases in people life like increased mus-cle tension, high blood pressure, increased pulse rate andreduced digestive system activities.

Gardens and gardening seem to be able to reducestress in several ways:

*By simply allowing views of a green space.:- Numer-ous studies have shown that simply viewing a green spacethrough a window can relax people and reduce stress lev-els and decreased recovery time from illness and fewerstress related incidents.

*By allowing immersion in a natural scene:-Large num-bers of studies have shown that by simply allowing peo-ple to immerse in a natural setting can reduce stress andincrease relaxation. So even looking at a garden can giveyou a positive boost. The evidence is so compelling thatthe health related studies have given its own name-Gar-den Therapy and is being used by hospitals to treatpatients and even to calm aggressive prisoners in jails.

3 After the successful transformation of Shah Rukh Khanfrom a TV star to Bollywood phenomenon, there have beenmany, who have tried to walk his path (read 'emulate'). Whilethere have been only a handful of success stories, there havebeen many who have fallen. This week's release KIS KISKOPYAAR KAROON marks the Bollywood debut of Kapil Shar-ma, who became a household name after having a success-ful stint on TV with his famous 'Comedy Nights'. Will KapilSharma's debut film click at the box-office or not... lets ana-lyze.

KIS KISKO PYAAR KAROON starts off with the definitionof 'shaadi' and also with the introduction of Kumar Shiv RamKishan aka Bholu (Kapil Sharma) in a swanky car. Even ashe drives the car, the audiences are driven to a flashback ofevents that establishes the connection between Kumar ShivRam Kishan's past with his present. If one had to sum up hislife, then, the only statement that would do total justice to it is'Kar bhala toh ho bura'. Every time Kumar Shiv Ram Kishanlands up helping a girl (unmarried, to be specific) in distress,he lands up marrying that girl! That establishes the fact as tohow he gets married to Juhi (Manjari Fadnis), Simran (Sim-ran Kaur Mundi) and Anjali (Sai Lokur). Kumar Shiv Ram Kis-han very successfully hides his marriage from all the threegirls err... wives. And in order to avoid problems, he placesthem at various locations of Bandra, Borivali and Kandivali. But, upon the 'expert advice' of his close friend lawyer Karan(Varun Sharma), Kumar Shiv Ram Kishan buys one flat foreach wife in an ironically named building called 'Cocktail Tow-ers'. To all his wives, he explains his super busy schedule stat-ing that he has three different 'offices' to be taken care of. Heeven names his different offices (read 'wives') on his mobilephone as 'Head Office', 'Branch Office' and 'Area Office'. Thecommon excuse that Kumar Shiv Ram Kishan gives to all thetree wives is that, because of his super busy job, he will spendone night with them and two nights in the office. In that way,he actually does justice to all the three wives. The story takesa U-turn with the entry of Deepika aka 'Enquiry Office' (ElliAvram), the girl whom he really loves. Due to the fear of los-ing Deepika, Kumar Shiv Ram Kishan keeps her too in thedark about his marriages and his respective wives. Just whenthe duo (Kumar Shiv Ram Kishan and Deepika) plan to getmarried, Kumar Shiv Ram Kishan's estranged parents (SharatSaxena and Supriya Pathak) make an entry. In order to hideabout his three marriages from them, Kumar Shiv Ram Kis-han stations them separately with different wives on differentfloors. Kumar Shiv Ram Kishan doesn't even tell his wivesabout his estranged parents. The plot gets further murkierwhen all the three wives become best of friends (unaware thatthey 'share' the same husband) and they land up seeingKumar Shiv Ram Kishan's parents coochie-cooing with eachother, thus adding to the confusion. The confusion reachesits crescendo when Kumar Shiv Ram Kishan's three wivesget invited to their best friend Deepika's wedding with Kumar(Shiv Ram Kishan). Will the three wives ever get to know eachother's reality and their husband's relation with them, willKumar Shiv Ram Kishan's estranged parents unite again, willDeepika and Kumar Shiv Ram Kishan ever get married, willKumar Shiv Ram Kishan's reality be exposed to the world andhis wives... is what forms the rest of the story.

The film's directors Abbas-Mustan, have been alwaysassociated with the thriller genre. Films like KHILADI, BAAZI-GAR, SOLDIER, RACE etc, mirror this fact. Because KISKISKO PYAAR KAROON belongs to a comedy genre, whatinitially seems like an uphill task for the masters of thriller ishandled by the duo with ease. The director duo has touchedupon a genre (bigamy and polygamy) that was popularizedby the likes of Govinda in the 90's. Their film KIS KISKOPYAAR KAROON, which addresses human instincts andpolygamy, picks up from where Govinda's films had left.Despite comedy not being their forte, full marks to the Abbas-Mustan for handling the full film with utmost ease. The remark-able scenes in the film include the underwear scene, Karva

chauth and the confusion at the mall. The product that Abbas-Mustan have created in the form of KIS KISKO PYAARKAROON will surely appeal to the masses.

As for as the debutante Kapil Sharma is concerned, thefilm looks like a cakewalk for the man who has already estab-lished himself in the genre of comedy. The film will definitelypave way for him to fill in the vacuum left behind by Govinda. The way Kapil Sharma has handled the emotional outburstscenes in the film, is something that needs to be lauded. Hejust couldn't have asked for a better debut than KIS KISKOPYAAR KAROON, a film that caters to his comfort zone ofcomedy. His comic timing and the delivery of one-liners aretotally unmatched and flawless. As for the heroines, becausethe film is a multiple heroine one, the screen time for eachactress was bound to be limited. Having said that, one has toadmit that the actresses were decent in their respective roles. The fact also remains that except for Manjari Fadnis, the restof the heroines were relatively unknown faces. But since thefilm was very clearly touted to be Kapil Sharma's launch pad,the choice of the heroines seemed totally justified. As for VarunSharma, he is only getting better with every passing film. KISKISKO PYAAR KAROON sees him in a very funny role. Hisrole in the film and his Newton's laws are bound to find reso-nance with the masses and classes alike. Ideally, he carriesthe entire film on his shoulders along with Kapil Sharma. TheSupriya Pathak - Sharat Saxena angle seems like a forcednarrative in the film, and lands up diluting the story angle andthe film's focus. Arbaaz Khan is funny in his deaf 'Bhai' act.

While the songs in the film are totally situational, the film'smusic (Javed Mohsin, Amjad, Nadeem) is a letdown. The onlyhummable track (featuring Kapil Sharma in a rap song) fea-tures only during the end credits. Besides this track, the rest ofthe tracks and the lyrics fail to leave an impact on the viewers.

Special brownie points to director Abbas-Mustan andscreenplay and dialogue writers (Anukalp Goswami, Dheer-aj Sarna) for having created an extremely engaging narrativein the first half of the film, which is half the battle won for thefilm. The second half, which unravels the confusion is totallyup to the mark and doesn't drag the story. For this, one hasto credit the film's editor (Hussain Burmawalla) for havingdone a razor-sharp job in the film. There are places where thefilm's cinematography (Dilshad V A) seems really shaky, butthe film's narrative overshadows these flaws.

On the whole, KIS KISKO PYAAR KAROON can bewatched if you enjoy Kapil Sharma's style of comedy.

Dr. Kailash C. BehlDengue is a infection caused by the Mosquito,

Aedes aegypti which is the primary epidemic vector.Dengue infection may occur in the form of classicaldengue fever or dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF)with bleeding manifestations or with or withoutshock (decreased blood pressure).

About 50 million dengue infections occur worldwideannually and about 5,00,000 people with dengue haem-orrhagic fever require hospitalization in each year andout of which 2.5% of those affected die. Major endemic-ity of dengue fever is found in South - East Asia andWestern Pacific regions.

Dengue has four virus serotypes 1-4. MosquitoAedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus both are mostimportant vectors forspread of dengue fever.Aedes aegypti typicallybreeds near human habita-tions and usually in freshwater like Jars, Vases, Dis-carded Containers,Coconut husks and old tiresand this Mosquito especial-ly bites during the day.Dengue transmission usu-ally occurs during the rainyseasons.

The infection period ofdengue fever ranges from 3to 14 days. When denguefever occurs in a patient, patient shows some nonspecific symptoms likeheadache, backache andgeneralized weakness. Some patients have painbehind the eye on move-ment of the eye, pain in themuscles and joints andbones. Some patients haveloss of appetite, altered taste sensation, constipation, pain abdomen, sore throat and generalize depression. The fever of dengue has usually temperature between39oC and 40oC and lasting for 5 to 7 days. Somepatients have flushing eruption on face, neck and chestduring 1st two or three days and at the end of the febrileperiod rash fades and petechiae (small reddish dots)may appear over the feet, on leg and on the hands andarms. Some patients have bleeding from nose, or fromgastrointestinal tracts in the form of fresh red or blackcoloured stools. Some have bleeding from injectionsites also. These patients which shows bleeding ten-dency has platelet count < 100000 cells/cum and this

is called dengue haemorrhagic fever and if this is fol-lowed by decreased blood pressure then it is calleddengue haemorrhagic fever with shock. This is veryserious condition.

Diagnosis of dengue fever is done if the patient hassigns and symptoms described above and some bloodtest are also available like Serology for dengue whichwill confirm dengue fever.

TREATMENTThe treatment have of dengue fever is symptomatic

and supportive, there is no need to panic. Bed rest isadvisable during acute phase. Antipyretic like Paraceta-mol or Cold sponging are required to decrease bodytemperature below 40oC. Asprin should be avoidedbecause it increases bleeding tendency. Patient shouldbe encouraged to accept oral fluids in the form of juicesand ORS. But if the patient is not accepting orally and

has excessive sweating, vomiting, loose motions andbleeds from nose or from any other sites, he/ she shouldimmediately be hospitalized.

Dengue fever can be controlled by accepting Mos-quito Control measures like Filling, Levelling andDrainage of breeding places of Mosquito, by applica-tion of chemicals or a synthetic insecticides (DDT, HCH).Mosquito can also be controlled by application ofsprays. People can be protected from Mosquito bitesby wearing full sleeves clothes, using Mosquito nets, screening and by application of Mosquito repellents.

How and why did you end up playing tennis?I started at the age of 4. My mother has always been

a sports enthusiastic, she herself was into athletics anda table tennis player. Also my elder brother used to playtennis until the 10th grade and then went for computerengineering. That's how I got into the world of tennis... How has been the journey so far?

The journey has been fantastic! All my dreams andgoals have come true and been achieved so far…I havebeen the junior and the senior national champion in thesame year 2009 at the age of 16 years. It was after thatin 2010 February I made my debut in the Women’s FedCup team as a reserve and being the youngest player, with Sania leading the team in Malaysia. From 2010 to2012 was my transition period from juniors to seniors andit was during those years I didn’t have any performance. In 2012 I won my first ITF in Singles and since then Ihave been doing well in singles and doubles. I won thewomen’s national championship again in 2013. WithGod’s grace I have been climbing the ladder and willhopefully keep going. At what point did you realize tennis was ‘the game’for you?

Since the day I started playing tennis…because evenwhen I was a kid I always said I want to grow up to be atennis player!India has produced great doubles players, but hasstruggled to do the same in the singles category. Areyou looking forward to breaking that trend? Why doyou think India suffers from a shortage of quality sin-gles players?

I don’t think that at all! We did have Sania Mirza in thetop 30 of the WTA rankings, which is not a joke and whichis not appreciated as much as it should be. And after herage group the lot of players either went to the States foruniversity tennis or they weren’t too serious and that hardworking or they weren’t very lucky with sponsorship orthey didn’t have enough support from their family to pur-sue tennis as a career that too for a girl in Indian socie-ty you know how it works... Since the time you have turned pro, you have beenconstantly improving your game and it has reflectedin the rankings. Do you think/believe you'll break intothe top 100 in the WTA rankings by 2016? What isAnkita Raina's big dream?

That's my target and plan actually. I know I will haveto work harder than I have ever done but I’m ready forit! To be “WORLD NO.1” , with the grand slam titles tobe precise. What was your first reaction after being drafted inthe Fed Cup team?

Firstly, as I’m a strong believer of God, that gotstronger! Also I realised the power of dreams and that

one should never stop dreaming. Secondly, I was veryexcited that I will be playing for my country and to top itall it was with Sania leading the team! If not a tennis player, what would you have become?

Never thought of that to be frank but would prefer serv-ing the country in either Army, Navy or the Air-force.Is there any particular match you would rate as yourfavorite/ the most cherished so far?

Can’t say one…there are a few though! One of themis when I won my first national championship in juniorsand seniors ( juniors was Adidas Nationals U-18 held inChennai and seniors was Women’s Grass Court Cham-pionship in Kolkata). Another would be when I won myfirst title on the ITF Pro Circuit which was in Delhi, it wasa $10,000 prize money tournament. What do you do when you're not busy playing ten-nis?

I love to eat, I’m a big foodie! So hanging out with afriend for a coffee or going out for lunch/dinner with fam-ily. Dancing and movie in a theatre is another thing I’mvery fond ofThe weirdest rumor you have heard about yourselfso far...

That I have a weak backhand! (TWF)
