Corroboree Magazine
Miss Rubina Young - First Head Mistress 1917
“The children loved gardening, and with the help of the
teachers, we planted a lawn along the whole length of
the school frontage to Morgan Street.”
Miss Annie Lange - Headmistress 1931–37 “I was
very happy at Morgan Street, in spite of having a
Second Class of 80-90 children in addition to running
the school.”
Miss Jean Godfrey - Headmistress 1940-42 “At my first Fete , camel rides were much enjoyed
by staff and pupils.”
Miss Mildred Young - Headmistress 1943-44 “During Easter of ‘44 the project was the laying
of the concrete block directly in front of the verandah. This was to provide a clean assembly place
and to mininise the dust which swirled into the rooms in summer and became mud n the winter.”
Miss Mary Noble - Headmistress 1948-51 “I recall that the extra classroom at the northern
end was erected then and the concrete paths, from the gates to the buildings, were made. Prior to
that it was the case of getting bogged - fortunately it doesn’t rain very often. The trees beside the
pathways were also planted then.”
Miss Laura Harris - Headmistress 1952-55 “We held our annual fete. The takings were in the
vicinity of £350. Our school items consisted of the Maypole for Second Class Girls, Flag Drill for
Second Class Boys and singing games for lower classes.”
Monday 29th May 2017 Term 2 Week 6
Learning for all at Morgan Street
We welcome back Mrs Wangmann this week after her knee replacement. Mrs Wangmann
will resume on 5W at the commencement of next term. Miss Porter will see the term out
to align with our assessment and reporting processes. For the remainder of the term Mrs
Wangmann will be supporting some of our mathematics priorities in our school plan. Miss
Porter will stay on with us for the remainder of the year filling other leave. This will be
communicated later in the term.
We are currently taking enrolments for Kindergarten in 2018. The enrolment process
across the schools in Broken Hill is commencing earlier to allow all processes to be
completed as we plan ahead for Kinder Orientation in Term Four. Please contact the
office for enrolling siblings and if you have friends with students ready to start Kinder next
year please encourage them to contact their zoned school.
This week will see the start of winter. Please take care during the colder months ensuring
everyone is warm and we are doing our best to keep the dreaded flu away.
Thought for the Week: “Teach your children that strength doesn’t come from what you CAN do. It
comes from overcoming the things you once thought you COULDN’T.”
Scott Sanford, Principal

Crunch&Sip is an initiative to give children the opportunity to eat more fruit and vegetables.
Students are encouraged to bring a small container of cut up fruit or vegetables and water
to have as a morning or afternoon snack.
To keep your Crunch&Sip snack interesting, try packing it in little boxes or bags. This is a
great way to increase the range of fruit and veg they eat, plus it’s quick and simple.
Variety packs are a good idea for the following reasons.
They:
Help your child to eat a rainbow of fruit and
vegetables
Enable you to introduce new fruit or
vegetables alongside familiar or more
accepted ones
Are visually appealing

Community News
Your child should have received their mid term P.R.O.U.D. checklist on Friday. It is pleasing to see that over 80% of our students have reached Bronze status and many are on their way to reaching Silver status.
Please take the time to discuss this checklist with your child. If they did not get all letters ticked, they should be able to tell you why. If you need any clarification on your child’s efforts, please contact their class teacher.
Last Chance to get your bouncy balls.
Available at the K-2 and 3-6 Office.
