d. Fascism: a political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

societyi. Each dictator took advantage of economic problems by:
1. Promising simple solutions to their nation’s problems2. Rebuilding national pride (often using propaganda)3. Providing scapegoats (targets for anger & blame)4. Absorbing power, taking away individual rights, and crushing
opposition (1 party; 1 ruler)

did not treat the defeated Germany fairly. Within the treaty:
1. Germany had to accept full responsibility for the war.2. Germany had to pay over 6.5 billion pounds (British currency) to the
allies.3. Germany had to give up over 70,000 squar3 kilometer of land and
give up all colonies to the allies.4. Germany had to greatly reduce th3 size of its army, it would not be
able to even defend itself properly if attacked.5. The Rhineland was occupied by allied troops.

aggression began we claimed to be neutral
