Or

Make Your Own 1. Lip Balm

1 Place 1 tsp. beeswax, 1 1/2 tsp. coconut butter and 1/2 tsp. palm oil in a small pot. Place the pot on low heat. Heat the ingredients until they are melted. 2. Let the mixture cool slightly. While it is still warm, add essential oils and vitamin E. Almond

and avocado oils are good moisturizing agents. But choose which oils suit your tastes.

3. Cut off the pointed tip of a pointed paper cup. This will create a funnel so you can pour

the balm into a small container without spills.

4. Place the pointed paper cup over your storage container with the pointed end inside the

container. Pour the balm into the container while it is still in a warm liquid state. Let the container cool at room temperature. The ingredients will hardened and take on a balm consistency.

5. Apply the balm with your finger.

EYE HEALTH Food’s that Work

Fruits Certain fruits, including oranges, kiwi fruit, grapefruit, apricots and tomatoes, are rich in vitamins A, C and E, all of which are antioxidants. These help to keep the eye tissues and cells healthy. Mangos and bilberries are rich in lutein. Zeaxanthin is found in tangerines, oranges and grapes. The more colorful the fruit, the more nutrients the species contains. Vegetables Vegetables that are dark-green in color with a leafy appearance are rich in lutein and Zeaxanthin. These vegetables include kale, spinach, chard, broccoli, turnip greens and members of the lettuce family. Other vegetables rich with both cartenoids are Brussels sprouts, garden peas and zucchini. Lutein can also be found in yellow peppers and Zeaxanthin in orange sweet peppers. Beta-carotene, another substance necessary for eye health, is found in broccoli, corn and in carrots. Cooked or Raw? Eating fruits and vegetables in their natural, raw state when possible is the best way to get all the available nutrients into your system. While this is easy for us to do with apples, oranges, pears and even carrots, sometimes cooking is preferred. Cooking fresh fruits and vegetables leads to nutrient loss, but some methods, such as steaming, keep this loss to a minimum. Boiling, where the food is immersed in water, is the least-preferred method, since the nutrients leach out of the food and into the water. The longer the foods are exposed to a heat source, the more nutrients are lost. Two exceptions to this rule are onions and garlic, members of the Allium family of vegetables. Roasting the garlic and cooking the onions causes a chemical reaction that increases the amount of sulfur compounds we ingest.

Skin Care Regimen 110011

If there’s one thing that women know about their skin, is to have a regimen. The key to having an effective regimen is to have a simple one. This will ensure that you will not have to worry about confusion and that you will have great results, because your regimen is simple and there are no complicated products, which means there will not be complicated results. What’s The First Step? Focus on the essentials. People want to go for the expensive moisturizer and eye cream. They put their money into the wrong thing. You have to invest in the basics. How to choose a Cleanser? You need a cleanser that doesn't dry you out. If, after you wash your face, your skin feels tight and dry, it’s too strong. What does a toner do for my face? A toner is an astringent which removes dirt, oils, toxins, and pollution from the face. This should be applied immediately after cleansing. It also helps seal the moisturizer in, so adding a toner may help your skin to feel more hydrated. Rather than going with a more intensive face cream, add a toner to your routine. Do I need a sunscreen? It depends. If you are someone that has always been using sunscreen, then not using it would make you feel uncomfortable. I don’t recommend sunscreen because #1… the chemicals. But I do have some safe, natural alternative’s that don’t cost a fortune.

Natural Alternatives for Sunscreen 1. Pure sesame oil is an effective natural alternative to sunscreen. According to Julie Gabriel, author of

"The Green Beauty Guide," sesame oil can block out approximately 30 percent of the sun's rays. Apply sesame oil to the exposed skin once every one to two hours for maximum sun protection.

2. Coconut oil is a natural alternative to sunscreen. Coconut oil blocks out as much as 20 percent of the sun's harmful rays, states Gabriel. Apply coconut oil to any exposed patch of skin every hour for maximum sun protection.

3. Aloe Vera gel is a common, natural alternative to sunscreen, writes Giacomoni. According to Shalini Vadhera, author of "Passport to Beauty," aloe Vera gel reflects as much as 20 percent of the sun's harmful UV rays. Aloe Vera is a succulent plant with extract that is useful for many medicinal purposes, ranging from wound healing to diabetes treatments. No matter the method of obtaining the gel, apply it to the skin every one to two hours for sun protection.

How often should I exfoliate? You'll want to exfoliate two to three times a week. Try to use a facial scrub with perfectly round beads. What ingredients should I particularly look out for? Synthetic fragrance, typically listed as "fragrance" or "parfum," is the number one reason for allergic reaction. Stay away from alcohol, except in spot treatments, it dries skin out. Mineral oil, which is often found in products geared toward older women, can suffocate the skin and exacerbate redness. Try using at least a 99.4% and up natural products. They are best.

Should I use product for all skin types? No, only use some geared toward your skin type. Everything is not for everybody. So look for your skin type within a natural/organic brand. Should I use serums or oils? And when should I use them? Yes, you can. Make sure it is a lightweight oil or serum. You don’t want too much stuff on your face before bed. So have a cleanser, toner, and serum/oil before bed. Should I use a moisturizer? Yes! This is just as important as a cleanser and toner. Use this for during the day. You don’t need oil during day because the sun may cause it to be greasier than you imagined. Again use an organic product. Especially for your moisturizers.

Natural Hands Natural Solutions

• Take lukewarm to cold showers and wash hands in lukewarm water. Do not wash your hands with hot water because this robs the skin of its moisture. After you wash your hands, pat them dry with a towel--avoid rubbing them.

• Removing dead skin cells can help the skin absorb more lotion. You can make an inexpensive but very effective exfoliating scrub at home.

• Aloe Vera is very useful for cracked and dry skin. Aloe Vera oil is helpful to cure dry and crumble skin. It makes the skin normal and restores its shine. Use the gel form the plant or find Aloe Vera gel in your health food store.

• When it comes to strategies for natural

dry skin care, Gabriel swears by olive

oil, an amazing multitasker. It instantly

grooms dry cuticles, works wonders on

hands and elbows, removes makeup,

and soothes and conditions itchy, dry

skin all over the body. ”When your skin

feels extra parched, you can dab a thin

layer of organic extra-virgin olive oil

under your moisturizer for an extra

dose of antioxidants and good fatty

acids.”

• At night apply lemon juice and glycerin

on your hands and wash in the

morning. You will see that your hands

have become very soft in a couple

days.

1

Some people use the cleansers first. Well, if you are someone who uses a gentle scrub daily or every other day... Use the scrub first. Gentle exfoliating will lift dead skin cells from the skin, which will then need to be washed away with your face wash.

2

If you towel dry your hair, you may want to think twice. Avoid rubbing the hair, this causes friction and frizz. Instead lightly scrunch the hair or squeeze with a t-shirt. This will result in smoother strands.

Do you keep your tooth brush in the bathroom? Well, studies show that airborne particles from a flushed toilet can make their way to your toothbrush. Invest in toothbrush covers or keep them in the bedroom.

Moisturize within five minutes after taking a shower or bath while your skin is still damp. This helps to seal in moisture more effectively and keep your skin feeling silky smooth all day long.

5

If you’re reaching for SPF 30 and thinking that you’re getting double the protection of SPF 15, think again. What matters most is that you apply and reapply every few hours to make sure you’re protected. Don’t use sunscreens with chemicals which happen to be most on the market especially in drugstores. Try using alternatives on pg. 9.

Got puffy eyes? Pour chilled chamomile tea into an ice tray to create cubes you can rub under your eyes when you need to deflate. Chamomile has natural anti-inflammatory properties and the cold of the cube will stimulate circulation under the eyes.

6

Did you know that many major retailers will now accept personal care items for return? At Sephora and Ulta you can bring opened products back within 60 days with a receipt for full credit. Most department store makeup counters accept returns as well. CVS also offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee on beauty products which they will accept for a full refund.

Need to dry your nails in a flash? Dunk freshly polished fingers into a bowl of ice and water for three minutes. Your polish won’t budge, we promise.

8

If you’re a die-hard beauty junkie, chances are you’ve got a bathroom full of products that you pull in and out of your regimen rotation. Whenever you grab a product from your stash, always double check the expiration date. For seasonal products — think sunless tanner or body shimmer — adhere a tiny label with your date of purchase so you know when to keep and when to toss.

To avoid bubbles in your nail polish, roll the bottle backwards and forwards between the palms of your hands instead of shaking it.
