The Livingston Parish News

Misery

DaviD NormaND | The News

Lower Livingston devastatedLocals gather in knee-deep water outside of Manny’s Bar in Head of Island on Hwy. 22 Friday as they wait for relief from the after-effects of Isaac. Scenes of destruction were everywhere in the Lower Livingston community where thousands of people found themselves trapped by the floodwaters that exceeded anything in memory. At right, Gretna resident Megan Sund climbs into a rescue vehicle as volunteer Earl Price loads her belongings into the truck. In the background, Livingston Parish Sher-iff’s Office Capt. Chad McGovern (back, right) tells Maurepas resident T.K. Waddell where they are going before he gets in. Sund evacuated the Jefferson Parish West Bank to stay with her mother in Maurepas. Below right, a rescue truck proceeds with numerous occupants. Below left, a man takes a break in his canoe, surrounded by vehicles seeking what owners thought was high ground in a parking lot along Hwy. 22.
