Atfirstmeeting, ChristineEhrich canappear tobesubdued and somewhat pensive. She says thatwhen people get to know her, they find an incrediblydriven and entrepreneurial spirit hiding beneath thatseemingly calm demeanor.
“I might seem quiet because I absorb what isbeing said; I really listen,” says Ehrich.
She explains when you are truly listening to theneeds people are expressing, it allows you to seeareas where there might be answers. IndustrialSolutions Network fills needs on many levels. Thefirm’s innovative approach to rehabbing injuredworkers benefits the corporate clients, the smallbusiness clinics in the network and the employeeswho receive quality care.
As to why this industry, she says, “I like a lotof purpose in my life. I’ve always gravitated tohealth care because you can see that you makea difference in people’s lives.”
The seeds of her company began when Ehrichleft marketing at HealthSouth and was takingcourses to become a physical therapist. Using herhealth care knowledge, she was consulting for arehab clinic that wanted to attract more workers’comp business.
“I started talking to employers and listening totheir needs and one of them was that they neededValleywide coverage. [Just] one clinic wasn’t goingto work so I had the idea of a network of clinicsspecialized to workmen’s comp.”
She explains that typically a patient goes toa therapy professional with about eight sites intown. The Industrial Solutions Network has 160in Arizona and recently expanded into Coloradoand Nevada. But the effective, function-targetedrehab and costs savings result from more thanjust numerous locations.
“We created a performance-basedmodel withmetrics that saves companies 30 to 40 percent offtheir health care costs by getting employees backto work quickly and safely,” says Ehrich. “We dooutcome reports so companies can see the numberof visits patients average as well as cost savings.”
Using efficiency data and customer satisfactionfeedback, the clinics also receive report cardsso they can see what is working well and wherethey can improve or expand. Ehrich says hercompany’s next step is to pilot a program forpersonal injury rehab.

It takes a lot of effortto make fast growthlook effortless.”
Trish Gulbranson’s steady, professional personaserves as the eye of the storm of success that hercompany Derma Health has been rising in over thepast few years. For the second year in a row, thecompany made the Inc. 5000 List of America’sFastest Growing Companies, moving up tonumber 28 in the Phoenix area. Last year, DermaHealth added a West Valley clinic and corporateheadquarters in Tempe.
“It takes a lot of effort to make fast growth lookeffortless,” says Gulbranson. “The hardest part is allthe work behind the scenes to keep service levelsup while everything is growing. We spend a lot oftime setting goals, training and educating staff.”
Derma Health is a physician-based medicalcenter with five locations in the Phoenix metroarea. A leader in the field of aesthetic technology, the firm specializes in non-invasive and minimallyinvasive laser and aesthetic treatments. Thebusiness boasts a nearly all female staff.
Sometimes her employees say that eventhough she’s very approachable, it can be difficultto read what’s going on behind that composed, congenial exterior. Make no mistake. Gulbranson
is passionately on a mission to make a positivedifference in women’s lives. Leaving a successfulsoftware firm, she began looking at trends in one ofher fields of interest, women’s health and fitness.
“I was reading some of Suzanne Sommers’books and learning about naturopathic doctors. Itgot me interested in anti-aging,” she says.
Gulbranson credits her father with teaching herthe business processes with which she fine-tunesher company. She adds that one reason she feelscompelled to give back to women is that she had agreat one as a mentor at the software firm.
Still, it takes guts and vision to start and growa business in a tough economy. She bumped upher advertising when others were cancelling theirsand kept planning as though a great idea and solidpractice could prevail over a sinking environment.
As she says, “It worked.”Gulbranson points out that when she needs to
let loose and let go of that professional aura, sheturns to her South Dakota farm girl roots and findsfreedom on a horse. Only now, it’s a Harley, the citygirl’s iron horse.

Bonnie Lucas gingerly shrugs her shoulderrecovering from recent surgery and comments thatit is hard to understand why she receives awardsfor giving when everyone should be doing it.
“If someone is down, pick them up. I can’timagine being happy if I wasn’t giving,” she says.
Receiving the Arizona Public Service2012 Supplier Diversity Excellence Award forCommunity Involvement, her company, LawEnforcement Specialists, is renown for giving.Charity runs the gamut from collecting blanketsduring the holidays for the Sojourner Center toserving food at St. Vincent de Paul.
Lucas started Law Enforcement Specialists to beable to be involved in her children’s lives by runninga business from home, just as her parents haddone. Until they retired, they had a television repairshop on Camelback and lived in the back. For nineyears, Lucas ran a successful pest control companybut business boomed so much that she sold itbecause with two small babies, it was too much.
An acquaintance in the sheriff’s departmentmentioned that there was need for someoneto coordinate off-duty, armed police officersfor security and traffic control. With years of
scheduling experience, she researched the licensesit would take, put out a flier for officers andcontacted businesses. Today she provides officersfrom law enforcement branches around the state forspecial events and businesses such as APS and SaltRiver Project.
Because “times are tough and theymake solittle for putting their lives on the line,” Lucas paysher officers to provide pro-bono security work fororganizations such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation,Lion’s Club, and Boys and Girls Club. Her employeesalso give by participating in the Susan G. Komencancer walks and volunteering at a golf tournamentfundraiser for St. Mary’s Food Bank.
“They’ve chosen a career to protect and to serve,”she says. “They have giving hearts, too.”
One of the most touching acts of caringinvolved holding events to raise $10,000 for asingle mother who was dying of cancer. Lucaseased her passing with the funds and promisingthat the woman’s son would complete hiseducation in the private school that saved him froma struggling social and academic situation.

As CEOof Chas Roberts Air Conditioning&Heating since 1999, Sissie Roberts Shank sits atthe helm of the largest air conditioning and heatingprovider in the state. While celebrating its 70thanniversary, the granddaughter of founders Chasand Alice Roberts continues the family legacy ofquality and integrity.
“This is on my watch, now. I have an obligationto succeed and make this company viable to passalong to the next generation,” she says.
Shank admits her 6-foot-plus father Chuck’sshoes were daunting to fill, especially in an industryknown for still being a man’s world. But, she saysthe Chas Roberts team has always respected andstood by her, making her and the company better.
Friends share that while Shank can host astellar gathering for a thousand and dine in fivestar restaurants, she’s just as likely to be workingdown in the trenches, content with a bag of pretzelsand a soda. She is admired for being a successfulexecutive, wife, mother and loyal friend. Humble inher success, she is quick to credit employees, some

She laughs when she tells the story of hergrandfather’s rescue from a dumpster being cartedaway. He explained he wanted to see what thecompany was throwing away because it was anindication of howwell they think they were doing. Tothis day, the company recycles scrap paper for notes.
