Mid-Ark Beagle Club held our first trial of the fall onSeptember 17, at Ed Gordon/Point Remove WMA nearMorrilton, Arkansas.

We had 18 dogs in the 13" Open Class and 23 in the 15"

Open Class for a total of 41 dogs. We had people fromacross Arkansas and also from Oklahoma and Louisiana.

Some of the faces were familiar but we had quite a fewthat were new to the Gundog Division and wanted to seethe type of dog we were promoting and even more thathad never been to a field trial before but wanted to seewhat it was about. Everyone seemed to have a good timeand several said they would be back and would enter adog the next time.

Dogs from Oklahoma and Louisiana won both classesand Louisiana dogs dominated the 15" class. All 5 dogsthat placed were from there.

We didn’t have much trouble finding rabbits but eventhough we got some rain the day before, scenting wastough. Most packs had some good running though andeverything went pretty smooth.

We had some really nice dogs show up. A few didn’tquite fit the format we run but they were still good dogs.

I want to thank Aaron Pettit, Keith Gwatney, KerryCrofford, and James MacMahan for judging the field andSandy Franklin for judging the bench for us. Judging is atough, tiring, and sometimes thankless job that not manypeople want to do.
