We are measuring the length of objects around your
house
using a ruler or tape measure. Using centimetres/cm.
1. Find five objects that measure under 30 cm
2. Name them and measure them to the nearest
cm
3. Record these in order of length from the
shortest to the longest.
4. What is the shortest length?
5. What is the longest length?
6. What is the difference between the shortest
and longest lengths?
Task 4 – Written Tasks:
Remember 1 cm = 10 mm and 1 m = 100 cm
So 10mm = 1 cm So 250 m = 2m 50cm
Remember 1 cm = 10 mm

LO: Equivalent lengths- m and cm
Task 1 –Mental Maths
Task 2 – Introduction Task:
Remember a metre is 100 cm long – look carefully at
where you need to put 0 and 100 and then consider
what number you will be counting in.
Task 3 – Practical Task:
Using a tape measure, measure up to ten objects
longer than a metre / 100cm and record them as
follows:
Bedroom door – 230 cm or 2m 30 cm
Task 4 - Written Tasks:
Remember 1 km = 1000m
So ½ a km = 500m

Find three similar objects, for example tea spoons,
measure each spoon and add up the total length.
Then put the three spoons end to end and measure
them to check your calculation. Repeat this for five
sets of objects.
