• Here in Toronto, the majority of children do not share the language of instruction and they do not have a shared social understanding as they come from many different cultures
The Challenge:

Our Objective:
To ensure that ALL children--regardless of their cultural background--have language skills, narrative and social understanding necessary to learn in school

Research
• Began as a research study in 2006-2007
• Funded by Social Development Canada• A model program to raise language,
narrative and social understanding for minority language and minority culture children
• Goal to improve school outcomes

or above chronological age equivalent benchmarks

How can I volunteer?
FROM 3 TO 3™ for volunteers runs two 8-week sessions (fall and winter)
You can sign up to tutor children for either or both of these sessions.

TUTORING IN KINDERGARTEN
• Read a book which has been categorized according to type of social reasoning with small groups of children
• Ask children the provided target questions and model responses
• Only qualification: You need to feel comfortable reading aloud in English

Expectations of Tutors
Commitment to volunteer once a week for eight weeks
Time: Morning (8:45-11:30) / Afternoon (12:45-3:30) or full day
Transportation to and from your assigned school
Police Check Attend One Training Session (held just before
volunteering starts) Report each visit in provided log
