High School senior Elizabeth TenBarge was sworn in Nov. 11 as the student representative to the Lodi School Board.
District Administrator Charles Pursell called it a milestone that reflected well on the progressive stance of the district. “We and one other school district in the state of Wisconsin are the only ones with student representatives duly elected to and appointed to the Board of Education.”

The report cards released by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction shows the Poynette School District exceeds expectations, improving over last year.
The district received a
score of 76.9 out of 100. With each school receiving its own rating, the middle school was rated the overall highest at 78.4. The district improved slightly from its 75.8 school last year.
On state report cards issued for the 2018-
19 school year, overall 87 percent of rated schools met or exceeded expectations as did 96 percent of the state’s 421 public school districts, according to a DPI press release.
The high school saw the largest individual
score improvement after going from a 66.5 to 76.6. The middle school also improved from its 72 last year, which falls under the “Meets Expectations” category, to a 78.4 this year—exceeding expectations. While still exceeding expectations,
the elementary school has dropped its overall score to 76.7, down from 81.8 last year.
In his report to the Poynette School Board Nov. 18, middle school principal Jerry Pritzl said he’s happy with the gains made in the
school, especially with the students with disabilities. He said the school is now looking closer at math and focusing on effective strategies to “close the gaps” in this area.

A committee exploring future Deerfield Village Hall options will take suggestions for new sites through Jan. 15.
That decision was made at a Nov. 18 meeting of the Municipal Space Needs
Subcommittee of the Village Board.The subcommittee meeting at the
current Village Hall, 4 N. Main St., drew about a dozen community members, who filled available public chairs and stood when seats ran out, reinforcing a lack of space that the village says is one reason it’s considering a move.
Subcommittee members said they’ll meet after Jan. 15 to consider ideas and to also review site drawings now being prepared by Barrientos Design & Consulting of Milwaukee, of how a 5,800-square-foot building might fit on either of two village-owned lots that are adjacent to Fireman’s Park. The new plans
are based on existing blueprints of an envisioned Village Hall made a few years ago.

The Cambridge School District is scaling back on the cost of a proposed high school performing arts center, including possibly eliminating an orchestra pit, after a community survey showed what had been suggested is too pricey for many residents to support.
School Perceptions, a Slinger, Wis.,
research firm, sent out 3,000 surveys on the school district’s behalf between early October and early November, and the district received about 1,000 responses through the mail and online.
School Perceptions representative Bill Foster shared the survey results at a meeting Nov. 12 of a task force that has been working toward an April 2020 referendum.
Foster said 49 percent of respondents
answered that they would not support a referendum to add a $14.4 million performing arts center to Cambridge High School. Another 12 percent were undecided and 39 percent were supportive.
When results were further broken out, 58 percent of residents who aren’t school district staff or parents of students were opposed, Foster said.
The lack of a clear mandate from the
community is a red flag for the passage of a referendum, Foster said.
“If this proposed question were put onto a ballot today, I’d say it would not be successful,” Foster told the task force.
The price tag, which was listed as $14.4 million on the survey, appears to be a key reason for opposition, Foster said.

A committee exploring future Deerfield Village Hall options will take suggestions for new sites through Jan. 15.
That decision was made at a Nov. 18 meeting of the Municipal Space Needs
Subcommittee of the Village Board.The subcommittee meeting at the
current Village Hall, 4 N. Main St., drew about a dozen community members, who filled available public chairs and stood when seats ran out, reinforcing a lack of space that the village says is one reason it’s considering a move.
Subcommittee members said they’ll meet after Jan. 15 to consider ideas and to also review site drawings now being prepared by Barrientos Design & Consulting of Milwaukee, of how a 5,800-square-foot building might fit on either of two village-owned lots that are adjacent to Fireman’s Park. The new plans
are based on existing blueprints of an envisioned Village Hall made a few years ago.

The Cambridge School District is scaling back on the cost of a proposed high school performing arts center, including possibly eliminating an orchestra pit, after a community survey showed what had been suggested is too pricey for many residents to support.
School Perceptions, a Slinger, Wis.,
research firm, sent out 3,000 surveys on the school district’s behalf between early October and early November, and the district received about 1,000 responses through the mail and online.
School Perceptions representative Bill Foster shared the survey results at a meeting Nov. 12 of a task force that has been working toward an April 2020 referendum.
Foster said 49 percent of respondents
answered that they would not support a referendum to add a $14.4 million performing arts center to Cambridge High School. Another 12 percent were undecided and 39 percent were supportive.
When results were further broken out, 58 percent of residents who aren’t school district staff or parents of students were opposed, Foster said.
The lack of a clear mandate from the
community is a red flag for the passage of a referendum, Foster said.
“If this proposed question were put onto a ballot today, I’d say it would not be successful,” Foster told the task force.
The price tag, which was listed as $14.4 million on the survey, appears to be a key reason for opposition, Foster said.

High School senior Elizabeth TenBarge was sworn in Nov. 11 as the student representative to the Lodi School Board.
District Administrator Charles Pursell called it a milestone that reflected well on the progressive stance of the district. “We and one other school district in the state of Wisconsin are the only ones with student representatives duly elected to and appointed to the Board of Education.”

The report cards released by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction shows the Poynette School District exceeds expectations, improving over last year.
The district received a
score of 76.9 out of 100. With each school receiving its own rating, the middle school was rated the overall highest at 78.4. The district improved slightly from its 75.8 school last year.
On state report cards issued for the 2018-
19 school year, overall 87 percent of rated schools met or exceeded expectations as did 96 percent of the state’s 421 public school districts, according to a DPI press release.
The high school saw the largest individual
score improvement after going from a 66.5 to 76.6. The middle school also improved from its 72 last year, which falls under the “Meets Expectations” category, to a 78.4 this year—exceeding expectations. While still exceeding expectations,
the elementary school has dropped its overall score to 76.7, down from 81.8 last year.
In his report to the Poynette School Board Nov. 18, middle school principal Jerry Pritzl said he’s happy with the gains made in the
school, especially with the students with disabilities. He said the school is now looking closer at math and focusing on effective strategies to “close the gaps” in this area.
