Service Above Self and the SS Oklahoma story is the topic of today’s presentation.
Our speaker, a 25+ year Rotarian, and two time club president of the Rotary Club of Hanford Sunset,
CA currently serves as a District 5230 Assistant Governor,
Mr. Daniel recently uncovered information on the SS Oklahoma, which was captained by his
grandfather, T.P. Davenport, who had kept the information under wraps until his death in 1986. These
include photos, news stories and a first person recap of what happened on that fateful day of April 8,
1942, 10 miles off the coast of St. Simons Island.
The original photos and other information will be donated after today’s meeting to Mimi Rogers,
Curator of the Coastal Georgia Historical Society for display in the upcoming WWII Home Front
Museum.
A career newspaper salesman, Mark Daniel, will take you thru the story of how he uncovered these
treasures and the true meaning of the Rotary ideal, Service Above Self and its many applications in a
lifetime.

Ms. Tibor presented a compelling look at the impact of radiation, heavy metals, bacteria and parasites in ground water on the health of Ware County (Waycross) citizens.
Thirty years’ of accumulation by toxins produced by AGL, CSX, Hatch and others into the aquafer has produced symptoms such as mental acuity deficits, numbness, tissue masses, cancer, heart issues, premature births, disability and death.
Tibor presented data and timelines which she believes proves the linkage of toxins and health issues. One complicating & contributing factor was a remediation effort using bacteria. In fact, the bacteria – while “eating” radiation – actually produced plutonium.
Silent Disaster continues to work with DNR, EPD, businesses and local & state officials to draw attention to this problem.
