TEACHING OBJECTIVE Background: My students were working on animal reports,

and I had taught a pervious lesson about gathering facts and making the facts their own.

New Learning Objective: Teach my students how to effectively use the internet, in order to find more information about their animal.

LESSON I wrote on the board three animal websites that had

information regarding all of the animals my students were researching.

When we first enter the computer lab, we sat all the students down and gave them a mini-lesson about accessing the internet and searching for information.

LESSON CONT. After giving my student’s a brief explanation we assigned

them to computers and helped them sign-in.

Once the students were signed-in they began accessing the websites, and I walked around to make sure students were finding the websites.

The students were required to find 10 new facts about their animal.

REFLECTION What Went Well: The kids were so excited to learn new

things about their animal and enjoyed exploring the internet. The majority of students were able to access the websites without any problems. They also were excited about learning in a new environment.

What I Would Change: I would allocate more time in the computer labs, and I wish I would have bookmarked all the websites before giving the lesson. This would have cut out some of the confusion for the students, but it also was a good learning experience for them.

REFLECTION: 4 PRINCIPLES OF EFFECTIVE TECHNOLOGY

INTEGRATION

Principle 1: The students were in control of the technology, and I believe the students were actively involved in their own learning process. They were held responsible for finding 10 new facts with the websites provided.

Principle 2: I think that technology helped to motivate my students, but that was not the main reason for using the technology. Using the internet helped introduce the importance of gathering research, and allowed them to see how much information they have access to.

REFLECTION Principal 3: Most students were familiar with the internet, so

they were able to focus there time on gathering information. I don’t believe technology in this instance hinder my student’s learning, and I feel it helped prepare them for future assignments.

Principal 4: My student’s could have gathered all the information from library books, but I think it is important to introduce kids to various research methods from a young age.
