1 Purpose
This document is intended to assist users with managing their ATI VISION license.
This document details how to manage a Standard Node-Locked License, which is the most common
license type. For assistance with managing other license types, please Contact ATI Support.
The procedures and operations described in this document assume VISION 3.6 and later. However,
much of the information is applicable to older versions.
2 Understanding the ATI VISION Licensing Process
Here is a general overview of the licensing process:
1. When a company purchases a VISION license, ATI provides the company with a Serial Number for that
license. The Serial Number and information on the toolkits that were purchased with the license are
added to the ATI Support Portal licensing system.
2. The company that purchased the license distributes the license Serial Number to the end user.
3. The end user installs ATI VISION, and obtains the Computer ID from the VISION Licensing dialog.
4. The end user logs in to the ATI Support Portal, navigates to the License Registration area, and registers the
license to their Computer using the Serial Number and the Computer ID.
5. The ATI Support Portal displays the license keys for all versions of VISION for which the license is eligible,
based on the license maintenance expiration date.
6. The user enters their Serial Number and the license key (generated by the ATI Support Portal) into the
VISION Licensing dialog, which enables the license toolkits that were purchased.

Public 6 DOC 460-0028
3 ATI VISION Licensing: The Numbers
This section describes the different numbers used in ATI VISION licensing, and their purpose.
3.1 Serial Number
The Serial Number is the unique number for a VISION license. ATI provides license Serial Numbers to a company
when VISION licenses are purchased.
Serial Numbers are not version-specific. A license Serial Number can be used with any version of VISION.
3.1.1 Where do I get a Serial Number? End users typically obtain their Serial Number from a person that manages software internally at their company,
such as a manager, license administrator, or IT person.
Users should retain their license Serial Number for their records.
VISION licenses are allocated and distributed by the company that purchased them; ATI Support does not
issue Serial Numbers to end users.
3.1.2 What if I lost my Serial Number? If your company previously provided you with a license Serial Number to use, but you no longer have a record of it,
you may be able to find it through one of the following steps:
1. If you have a version of VISION that is installed and licensed, launch it, and go to Help -> Licensing. The
Serial Number will be displayed in the dialog.
2. If you no longer have a licensed version of VISION installed on your PC, but the license is still registered in
the ATI Support Portal, you can log into the ATI Support Portal and look under My Licenses. Your Serial
Number will be displayed. Deactivated licenses are not available for viewing on the ATI Support Portal.
3. If you are unable to find your Serial Number using one of the previous steps, then you will need to contact
the person at your company who issued you the Serial Number originally, and ask them for your Serial
Number.
Accurate Technologies Inc.
Public 7 DOC 460-0028
3.2 Computer ID
The Computer ID is a unique number for your PC that is generated by ATI VISION. It is used to bind your VISION
license to a particular PC.
The Computer ID is automatically generated, and cannot be changed.
3.2.1 Where do I get a Computer ID? Since ATI VISION automatically generates the Computer ID, VISION must be installed in order to have access to the
Computer ID.
You can download a VISION installer by visiting the Downloads area of the ATI Support Portal.
To obtain your Computer ID, launch VISION. The Computer ID is displayed in the VISION Licensing dialog (example
below). If VISION is not currently licensed, the VISION Licensing Dialog will be displayed automatically. If VISION is
currently licensed, you must select Help -> Licensing to display the VISION Licensing dialog.
NOTE: The Computer ID is NOT the same as your login ID, network ID, asset tag number, or the Serial
Number from the bottom of your PC. If any of these numbers are used for generating a license key, you
will receive an Invalid License Key error message when attempting to apply the license key.
Accurate Technologies Inc.
Public 8 DOC 460-0028
3.3 License Key
The License Key a number that is generated by the ATI Support Portal, which you enter into the VISION Licensing
dialog to enable the toolkits associated with the license.
License Keys are VISION version specific. For example, a key generated for VISION 3.6 will not work with
VISION 3.7 or vice-versa.
3.3.1 Where do I get a License Key? License keys are generated using the ATI Support Portal by providing your license Serial Number and your
Computer ID.
If your license is not registered on the ATI Support Portal, you must register the license in order to obtain
your license keys.
If your license is already registered on the ATI Support Portal, all you need to do is view your license keys.

4 The ATI Support Portal
ATI VISION licenses are managed using the ATI Support Portal, where you can perform the following operations to
manage your license:
License Registration - This process registers the license to your PC. Once a license is registered,
license keys are provided which enable the toolkits associated with your license.
View license keys - If your license is registered on the Support Portal, you can view the license keys
for all versions of VISION for which the license is eligible.
Move License - The move process will transfer the license from one Computer ID to another, under
the same User Account. This operation is necessary when moving your license to a new PC.
License Deactivation – This process completely unregisters the license from the associated Computer
ID and User Account. This is necessary when you will no longer be using the VISION license.

10 How to verify Administrative Rights
In order for the license information to be correctly applied to your system, your PC must have full administrative
rights when entering the license information and when running VISION for the first time after entering the license
information.
Since admin rights are also required for installation, it is usually convenient to complete the licensing
process immediately after the installing VISION.
Some IT departments configure special “User Admin” accounts for their users, which may or may not
have the permissions to allow proper installation and licensing of VISION. If you need assistance with
obtaining full admin rights on your PC, contact your IT department.
If you are unable to complete the steps below, you are most likely using a restricted user account.
Contact your IT department for assistance.
1. Click Start, then right-click on Computer and select Manage

12 Common Licensing Tasks – Frequently Asked Questions
I am licensing VISION for the first time. What is the process?
Follow the process described in the section How to register your VISION license.
I want to upgrade to the latest version of VISION. What do I need to do?
This depends on the VISION “base version” (the first and second numbers in the VISION version number):
If the version you are upgrading to is of the same base version as the version you are currently using
(EXAMPLE: you are upgrading from VISION 3.6 .2 to VISION 3.6.3), all you need to do is install the new
version of VISION. The license keys are the same for all base versions; the new version of VISION should
automatically recognize the license information already present on your PC.
If the version you are upgrading to is of a different base version than the version you are currently using
(EXAMPLE: you are upgrading from VISION 3.6 .2 to VISION 3.7.1), you must install the new version of
VISION and then view your license keys to obtain the correct license key for the new version.
I had VISION licensed on my old PC, and then I received a new PC. What do I need to do to get
VISION licensed on my new PC?
The new PC will have a different Computer ID than the old one, requiring a different license key. You must use the
move process to transfer the license to the new Computer ID.
My hard drive failed and was replaced. What do I need to do to license VISION again?
When a hard drive is replaced, the PC will usually have a different Computer ID, requiring a different license key.
The process is the same as receiving a new PC: you must use the move process to transfer the license to the new
Computer ID.
I need to transfer my VISION license to someone else. What is the process?
Deactivate the license, using the process described in the section How to deactivate (unregister) your VISION
license. Once the license is deactivated, it is free to be registered by someone else using the process described in
the section How to register your VISION license.
