Making cupcakes!

Page 2: Making cupcakes!

In my fieldwork 2, I was in a childcare centre, I decide to make cupcakes with the children. firstly to see how I could manage a group of children (with little assistance), to say a big thankyou to the staff and

children for having me, and lastly the benefits for the children.

As Polatajko & Mandich (2004) states “participation in everyday childhood occupations is fundamental to the healthy development of all children, regardless of ability or disability” (as cited in Rodger, 2006, p. 115). To me, baking was

an childhood occupation I thoroughly enjoyed, so here goes; making cupcakes so we have healthy children.(picture at my kitchen that I grew up baking in)

It allows the children to explore in a structure environment and develop personal growth.

Wilcock (1998) stated that doing; enables the aquisition and development of phyiscal, cognitive, affective and social skills.

Furthermore that doing leads to being. Doing, was being involved in the whole

cupcake making, which was either helping make up the cupcakes or icing them.

Doing

Firstly one child got to choose what bowl would be best, it look a bit like this

Organisation makes group work easier, also it allows the children to see what we will be using.

Then they got to add the flour into the bowl

The all took turns of putting the different ingredients in but one thing that really made them smile is when they got to crack the egg into the mixture.

Furthermore that doing leads to being. Being, which Maslow presses “ that is the

contemplation and enjoyment of the inner life” (as cited in Rodger, 2006, p. 116).

Being

“Becoming occurs through growth and experience and leads to the development of a sense of self-confidence and social connection” (Rodger, 2006, p. 116).

Becoming

These was a lot of experimenting with the icing, finding out what they like

Rebeiro et al. (2001) used the term belonging to describe the necessary contribution of social interaction, mutual support and friendship, and the sense of being included, to occupational performance and life satisfaction, (as cited in Hammell, 2004, p. 302).

Belonging

Page 18: Making cupcakes!

I felt this mainly when we all sat down together at the tables: staff, children, me, and even my lecturer. Looked at our finished product; we have all contributed to it, and enjoy the food with each others company.

Belonging

Being together makes you have a sense of belonging, being with your friends; your place in the world.

Belonging

Page 20: Making cupcakes!

Everyone should fit somewhere, and feel that they belong, especially children as they will grow with those great values learnt, some even in cupcake making.
