On 2nd February, we had a guest speaker, coming from UK, Dr. Mukund Chidrawar. He is the President of Rotary Club of Walsall, District 1210 in UK. He spoke on projects and program conducted by his club. Dr. Mukund completed his MBBS and MS from Grant Medical College. Further he went to London to complete his FRCS. Currently he is the President of Rotary Club in Walsall. His club is 97 years old. Rtn. Dr. Mukund is the first Indian to become president of this club and he has been selected to become President again in the millennium year ie. 2020-21. He spoke about the city of Walsall. It’s known as ‘The Leather Centre of England’. He presented good pictures of important sites of Walsall. He talked about his club’s one of the interesting project – training dogs for helping visually impaired people. It is very costly to train the dogs for visually impaired. His Rotary Club helps the government to lessen their burden by training the dogs. The next project was a Fund Raiser. People from his club dressed up as Santa Clause during Christmas time and stood at the malls, supermarkets with their projects displayed on a standee requesting people to donate. He mentioned people willingly donate the money. In 2018, they have collected 10000/- pounds in this way. His club also helps teenagers with their mental problems. His talk was really very informative and it was interesting to know how the Rotary Clubs on the western countries function. Rtn. Dr. Mukund came along with his wife Dr. Ujwala, who is a pediatrician with expertise in Neo-natal disabilities. They are blessed with two children. Their daughter Dr. Shivani is an ophthalmologist and son is an engineer.
