NSS Camp at village Bhindon – Report

Special Camp at Bhindon, Taluka Gandheli, Aurangabad. (7 days)
Different activities were organized for 7 days
The camp was held from 19th February till 25th February, 2016 with 25 NSS volunteers as
follows:-

The main objective of camp was to carryout cleanliness and water harvesting.

Activities on 19th February, 2016
The NSS camp of MGM Institute of Management started from 19th February,
2016 at Bhindon. On 19th Feb, students set up their camp at the school and arranged their
belongings. They planned for 7 days schedule after consulting the villagers. The
inauguration of the camp was done by the Upsarpanch Shinde who gave suggestions for
the camp.
Also the school Principal Mr. Kailas Gaikwad suggestions were taken before
starting the camp. He focused on some improvement sources of the village issues and
problems and expected NSS volunteers to work on them. In this function, NSS
Coordinator Sayli Deshmukh gave to work for the camp. Director Dr. (Col) Pardeep
Kumar directed the students for the camp and brought out the importance of the camp as
service to society. Academic Coordinator Prof. Anil Palve also guided the NSS
volunteers for the camp arrangement and their work at the village.
Survey of the village was done by NSS volunteers so as to plan for their work.
They also took information from the villagers and Mrs. Ashatai Shinde, Sarpanch to
acquire knowledge about the village and to plan the activities and tasks.

Activities on 20th February, 2016
2. Cleanliness of the Village and School.
NSS volunteers cleaning the road and drainage system of the village at Bhindon.
As the adopted village is primarily dependent on Dairy business, NSS volunteers
firstly identified and made villagers aware regarding the importance of cleanliness.
Volunteers firstly cleaned the road by removing cowdung and dry grass lying in the
village.they made villagers aware regarding the storage of cow dung and using it for
biogas and bio-fuel.

The roads and the surroundings in the village appeared much cleaner after the
work of NSS volunteers. People were also motivated. NSS volunteers explained the

villagers to properly up sheds and related to cleanliness of cows and buffaloes. They
also gave suggestions to improve the productivity of milk through nutritional diet to
the breeds. They made villages aware related to goat farming and there benefits.
Many of the villagers have actually implemented it. Hence, cleanliness and awareness
related to the animals were carried out on 20th February, 2016.

3. Talk on women empowerment.

NSS girls’ volunteers carried out village survey. They spoke with maximum girls
and women. Volunteers identified that among 30 women 6 of them are facing the
household problem and issue of harassment. Girls were not allowed for further
education while they get married at very young age. The most important was the issue
of dowry. People of Bhindon have a tradition of dowry system while many of them
can not afford it due to drought.
Parents try to take personal loans on their land for dowry which is worst case in
drought situation. Again the issue of education was seen as girls are being sent only
till 7th standard as their parents are interested only with the household work.
All these issues and women problems were probed by the NSS volunteers and
they discussed in the group. The village is having women Sarpanch Mrs. Ashatai
Shinde but she is not active in any of the village development activities. They jotted
down all the issues and arranged the session for women anti harassment. So, NSS
Coordinator Prof. Sayli Deshmukh gave a lecture talk and problem solving session in
which these problems were discussed. The major problem was water conservation
and usage related to household work, women education. Sarpanch was also involved
in decision making while they realized why girls should be given further education.

Lecture talk on issues and problems faced by the women in the village.
It was also focused that due to dirty water storage, the kids were facing harmful
diseases like dengue, malaria and typhoid. For this the medical officer Dr. Kale and
the Z.P. teacher Minakshi Raut were contacted. Awareness related to pure water
storage and usage was discussed with the ladies.
Activities on 21st February, 2016
4. School renovation (paint to school and trees and building kho-kho playground).
NSS volunteers cleaning the school campus
School renovation was one of the major tasks carried out in NSS camp. On 21st
February, 2016 NSS volunteers first cleaned the school campus. In which different

activities like dried leaves were buried in a pit and proper arrangement of scrap and
roads was properly directed. Fencing of saplings was erected to protect them from
goats and various animals.

NSS volunteers painted 100 trees with geru and chuna. Also alphabets, letters and
Roman words were written on the trees to make school students learn them. Doors,
school gate, windows and iron fencing were colored with black oil paint.
This work was started on 21st February till 23rd February, 2016. School students
and teachers were very excited by seeing drastic change in the school campus.

Kho-kho is very popular game in the Scolls but the ground was in a bad condition.
NSS vprepared a proper ground after cleaning the area and bushes etc. The ground

marking was done with ‘chuna’. Bhindon school students have won 1st prize in kho-
kho at district level kho-kho matches.
5. Guidance related to micro financing.
Guidance related to personal loans and micro financing to the farmers for their
personal need.
NSS volunteer Samta Tayade who is also a student of MBA II year (Finance)
guided the farmers related to personal loan, procedure to follow for availing personal
loan and its interest rate. Many of the farmers are in need of loan for agriculture and
dairy farming purposes. The Rural co-operative banks are rejcting the loan due to
drought affected area. In such situation how to tackle the situation and avail the loan
was been made clear by the volunteer. There was a farmer Mr. Appasaheb Shinde
who wanted to avail loan for growing his dairy business. Guidance related to risk and
profitability was given to him based on which he was made clear about the
installment and repayment of the loan that he is going to avail. Also he was made
clear with the subsidy which the Government will provide with the help of
Gramsevak Mr. Gaikwad. Mrs. Sangita Shinde was also guided based on personal
loan required for her daughter’s marriage.

6. Pulse polio campaign.
Pulse polio campaign was conducted by NSS volunteers at camp on 21st
February at Bhindon.
On 21st February, 2016 Pulse Polio camp was held at Bhindon. In this
volunteers made villagers aware about polio dose and guided them at Anganwadi for
the same. It was ensured that not a single child was left from polio campaign. NSS
volunteers moved from door to door for making this Polio camp successful.

7. Talk on hygiene and education to school students.(22/02/2016)

Bhindon School is having approximately strength of 140 students. Lecture talk
was arranged for school students on health and hygiene. The students were given
suggestions on their cleanliness, education and etiquettes such as combing hair, cut
your nails, wear neat and clean school uniform and polish their shoes. Students were
asked the problems that they are facing in the school.
Volunteers conducted the games for the school students to make them enthuastic
in extra-curricular activities. Prizes were distributed for the game winners.

8. Water harvesting.

Documentary on the local farmers is made on the water conservation and
control. There is 15 feet water stream at the border of village and farms. This stream
can be filled with water till winter if there exists a small dam for the same. NSS
volunteers made a dam of stone and mud to temporarily stop the water required for
farms. Drinking and domestic use water is supplied by the tanker and jar daily in the
village. Sarpanch and Panchayat have signed a contract with tanker supplier for
drinking water. Farmers mostly cultivate wheat gram as their crop.

9. Building proper drainage system of the village.

Drainage system and the village is in a very poor state. Dirty water flows
on the road. On 23rd February, 2016 volunteers made a plan for preparing drainage
system in the village. They dug drain on both sides of the road and made it
channelized sewage system. Thus big pipes of diameter 15 cm were bought and fitted
for channelizing the water flow to a natural nallah..

Activities on 24th February, 2016
10. Lecture talk to villagers on sericulture, onion cultivation and nursery by
Faculties of MGM Agriculture College.
Lecture talk was arranged for villagers on Nursery by Prof. Chavan
On 24th February, 2016, following lectures/talk were arranged for the
farmers’ a. Sericulture b. Onion cultivation, nursery, c. water conservation and
Government subsidy. Due to decreasing water level in bore well and ponds, the
important challenge is to tackle with the water situations.
The procedure of sericulture farming was explained to the farmers while
they were made aware that how with less water farming can be done. Hence, the
techniques used in the farming were told and also availing of Government subsidy
and approaching for the bank loan were explained. The total estimate in terms of
finance was made clear so as to make it clear why sericulture farming is affordable.
Three faculties namely Prof. Suhase of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Prof. Chavan and Prof.
Kale of MGM Agri-Biotech College delivered the lecture talk. Amongst whom, Prof.
Suhase enlightened regarding Sericulture, while Prof. Chavan and Prof. Kale gave
information related to Nursery and Government subsidy. Farmers asked the questions
related to the lecture talk while they were satisfactorily answered by the experts. Mr.
Suhase stated that proper procedure of sericulture farming should be explained so that
drought situation could be overcome with systematic farming.

11. Health check up camp
Health check up camp was organized by NSS volunteer in which 100 villagers
participated.
Health check up camp was organized for the villagers on 24th February,
2016 in which 100 people participated. Health check was organized so as to make
people aware regarding their blood group, weight and Blood Pressure. NSS volunteer
Shirish Solunke who is also Lab Technician carried out health check up camp. School
students were also involved in the health check up. Over weight and abnormal BP
cases were suggested for further treatment in Aurangabad.

Activities on 25th February, 2016
12. Valedictory

On 25th February, 2016 valedictory function of NSS camp was organized. Director Dr.
(Col) Pardeep Kumar, Prof. Ashish Gadekar , Sarpanch Ashatai Shinde, NSS Coordinator Prof.
Sayli Deshmukh, Academic Coordinator Prof. Anil Palve, all teaching and non-teaching staff of
MGM IOM, villagers and school students were present for the valedictory function.
Report on activities organized and completed in the camp was presented by NSS
Coordinator Prof. Sayli Deshmukh. These activities will benefit NSS volunteers in their future
career while performing in their own field. Few of the demands which were fulfilled by the
Institute were quoted by the Sarpanch and Director Dr. (Col) Pardeep Kumar appreciated the
work done and its social importance in today’s life for building a good citizen. While Prof.
Ashish Gadekar focused on the developments to be made by the villagers through the NSS
volunteers which will help them to grow. A cultural programme was presented jointly by the
NSS volunteers and school students. Students were given prizes and they joined in the Camp get
together.
Thus Camp was a great satisfying experience to all volunteers as it was to the villagers,
students and the organizers. It will go a long way to uphold NSS motto of ‘Not I but You’.
