A MESSAGE FROM MAYORALAN M. ARAKAWA
Aloha kakou – On behalf of the people of Maui County, it is indeed my pleasure to welcome you to the first-ever Made in Maui County Festival. This event showcases the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of each of our more than 130 vendors who help support and strengthen our diverse economic base. Their businesses provide an amazing array of gifts, artwork, clothing, jewelry, food and collectible items that appeal to visitors and locals alike. These products and vendors are a hallmark of the excellence that abounds in our community, and are truly a special part of what makes Maui County No Ka `Oi. My sincere thanks to all attending this exciting product show, and my deepest gratitude to the many helping hands that have worked alongside my dedicated Economic Development staff and the Maui Chamber of Commerce team for months to organize this festival. Lastly, a huge mahalo to each of the Made in Maui County Festival vendors for their participation in this premiere event, and in so doing, have laid the groundwork for many more years of success to come. In Recognition of the Made In Maui County Festival November 7–8, 2014
On behalf of the people of Hawai‘i, we send our warmest aloha to all of the vendors, attendees and supporters of the Made in Maui County Festival. This event brings our community together to celebrate our diversity and creativity, showcasing the wide variety of products made on the islands of Maui, Moloka‘i and Lana‘i. This festival will provide an opportunity for vendors to feature a wide variety of Made in Maui products including food, produce, art, fashion, gifts and collectibles. We congratulate all of the participating vendors for their dedication as small business owners in capitalizing on this opportunity to showcase their products. Owning your own business is more than an investment—it is a commitment to helping build a locally-centered economy filled with goods born from the beauty and ingenuity of our land and people. The Made in Maui County Festival is an opportunity to help our local businesses network as part of this movement, and for everyone to participate as consumers in growing a local economy. We commend the organizers, staff, volunteers and supporters of the Made in Maui County Festival for their hard work creating a venue to support locally grown and made products. We are confident that the Made in Maui County Festival will be a great success and hope everyone can enjoy and share in this event.
With warm regards,

KEEPING MAUI GREEN Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company has been dedicated to
growing and milling premium sugarcane for more than 140 years. Hawaii’s only producer of raw and specialty
sugar, our natural cane sugar is 100% grown and produced on our Maui plantation. The rich volcanic soil combined
with the warm tropical sun create the ideal condition for growing the world’s sweetest sugarcane. Crystallized from
the juice of fresh-cut sun-ripened cane, Maui Brand Sugar is slow-boiled and carefully handcrafted one batch at a
time, retaining some of the molasses to preserve the vitamins and minerals captured in the natural color and rich
old-fashioned flavor of our golden sugar crystals. Join companies and locals across the island by enhancing the taste
of your favorite recipes and products with the naturally sweet, distinctly delicious flavor of the Hawaiian Islands.

WE’RE MADE IN MAUI COUNTY
Among the criteria that businesses had to meet to be considered for participation were:
- having their business based in Maui County - products had to have a minimum of 51% of their value added in Hawaii - the product mix, quality, and creativity value of products were also considered
Our approved vendors were also required to attend a mandatory vendor training meeting in order to prepare for today’s event. Not an easy feat considering their busy schedules.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all these amazing businesses who are here today to showcase the wide variety of products and the breadth of talent in Maui County.
They reaffirm what we already knew, that Maui County is no ka oi (the best).
For Maui County businesses interested in participating in next year’s festival, please contact us at:[email protected] or call (808) 270-7710.
The Made In Maui County Festival is proud to present over 130 local businesses who qualified to participate in this inaugural event.

In celebration of Arbor Day this month, enhance our environment and save energy by planting native Hawaiian trees around your home to shade windows from morning and afternoon sun. Planting shrubs on all sides of your house can also help reduce the temperature of the soil and walls.
Strategically planting native trees, shrubs or trellises around your home near windows and walls can help reduce air conditioning energy costs by 30 percent.
When planting trees around your home, there are several things to consider – whether it’s shading, a windscreen, visual screen or an accent – decide what you want your tree to accomplish well ahead of time.
Select trees that will mature to meet your needs and most importantly, remember the 30-foot rule: If you are planting near power lines, consult your landscape professional to be sure your tree will not grow higher than 30 feet when fully grown.

The Made in Maui County Festival logo was created by Susan Byrne LLC, a locally-based marketing and design firm. Before relocating to Maui 20 years ago, Susan owned a design firm in New York City serving Fortune 500 companies. She built the company to a staff of 10 and cultivated a strong reputation in the competitive New York market. Susan’s work on Maui is admittedly a very different experience; yet she enjoys capturing the islands’ unique style and is known for maintaining high standards and an unwavering attention to detail. www.susanbyrnellc.com
