Machinery Malfunction Diagnosis and Correction

January 28 - February 1, 2013

Résumé Mr. Eisenmann willingly shares over 47 years of industrial knowledge and experience. He has dealt with process machinery throughout his engineering career as follows:

• 1964 - 1972: Shell Oil and Northern Petrochemical operating plant work in design, construction, startup, operations, and maintenance.

• 1972 - 1976 machinery consulting work with Dow Industrial, followed by Endevco.

• 1976 - 1981: Bently Nevada as Senior Field Engineer• 1981 - 1984: Bently Nevada as V.P. of World Wide

Sales & Service.• 1985 - 2000: Founded & managed consulting company

Machinery Diagnostics, Inc.• 2000 - 2007: Sulzer as Principal Mechanical Engineer

for field troubleshooting, vibration analysis, plus rotordynamic calculations and evaluation.

• 2007 - 2010: GE Energy as Director of Global Machinery Diagnostics Services.

• 2010 to Present: Wilpat, Inc. devoted to training in machinery diagnosis.

• Author of multiple lectures and papers in addition to the text Machinery Malfunction Diagnosis and Correction.

• Retired registered Professional Engineer in Illinois, Nevada, and Texas.

• A lifetime member of ASME, NSPE.• Mechanical engineering graduate of Illinois Institute

of Technology.

Course Topics• Dynamic motion fundamentals• Transducer characteristics• Machinery mechanical characteristics• Machinery modeling• Dynamic signal characteristics• Data acquisition and processing• Common malfunctions• Unique malfunctions• Mechanical corrections: rotor balancing• Mechanical corrections: machinery alignment

SummaryThis 4½ day event represents a unique opportunity to examine the three fundamental aspects for solving machinery problems; including the Machinery configuration, the use of rotordynamic Modeling to predict behavior, and the application of proper Measurements to document the actual vibration response. As demonstrated in this course, the interrelationship of these characteristics expedites problem diagnosis, followed by the implementation of appropriate corrective procedures. Basic engineering concepts are expanded to explain this technology in understandable terms, and multiple case histories are presented. This course is based on the book Machinery Malfunction Diagnosis and Correction – Vibration Analysis and Troubleshooting for the Process Industries by Robert C. Eisenmann, Sr., & Robert C. Eisenmann, Jr.
