Unit description
Many economic policy makers suggest that exports are
key to growth during a recessionary period. In fact both
Thailand and the Asian region have fared well during the
current global economic crisis, with the exports of goods
driving their economies. This unit aims to provide students
with an introducon to the main issues in internaonal
trade, from an operaonal point of view. In addion to
reviewing the main actors, regulaons and instuons
involved in it, and analysing world trade exchanges and
characteriscs, students will also have the opportunity
to engage in the technical and operaonal aspects of
internaonal trade.
The concept is to provide students with the necessary
understanding of the export management process,
in order to enable them to make an immediate and
valued contribuon to the workplace on the successful
compleon of their studies. Students will also be
familiarised through the unit with common processes
used in export management and some of the challenges
that those involved in export management face on a daily
basis.
Learning outcomesUnderstand the main actors and the major issues that
aect internaonal trade
Be able to evaluate internaonal trade exchanges
Understand the main methods and tools for internaonal
trade and investment
Be able to develop, with commentary, a comprehensive
export strategy for an internaonal company

Unit descriptionStudents will examine the role and importance of strategic
business planning in organisaons. Businesses need to
idenfy their core purposes so that all other acvies
can be synchronised and structured in order to support
the achievement of these objecves. The businessenvironment is, however, uid and businesses need
to respond to both internal and external factors when
reviewing their strategies.
Strategies need to be designed in such a way as to achieve
compeve advantage. Both the strategies and the nature
of compeve advantage are dependent on, and need to
be aligned to, what the business is and what the business
does. There are a number of operaonal and emergingissues that impact upon business strategy, and students
will learn how sustainable and ethical consideraons have
an increasing impact on strategy.

Unit descriptionOn an average drill bits contribute less than ten percent
of total drilling cost. However types of bits to be used and
condions at which they are going to be operated can have
signicant eect on drilling me, consequently on total
drilling cost. The largest manufacturer of drill bits makes 34types and 33 sizes and many more on request.
With more than three hundred slides and illustraons you

most suitable bit for your own case by employing modern
techniques and analyzing previous bit records from your
own eld.

Roller Cone Bits & Dull Bit Grading
Bit OperaonPraccal Session- In this acvity, Galle and Woods
analycal method will be pracced to determine the
opmum operang parameters for a given bit based
on previous drill bit records. Parcipants will be asked
to determine the opmum weight on bit and the rotary
speed to achieve minimum cost drilling.
Praccal Session- The graphical interpretaon technique

chart to diagnose whether or not there is any bit balling
problem and any need for improvement in bit hydraulics.
Praccal Session- Parcipants will determine the opmum
jet bit nozzle size (s) to maximize bit hydraulics horse
power. For this problem they will be given a hypothecal
pump pressure versus circulaon rate data.
