Message From the President
Dear members,
I hope that you are all enjoying some time off during the summer.
Many thanks to SPWLA Distinguished Lecturer Nicole Reichel who presented “Neutron Gamma
Density (NGD): Principles, field test results and log quality control of a radioactive-free bulk den-
sity measurement”, at our July evening meeting.
Our next evening meeting is on 9th September, where Martin Blunt from Imperial College will be
presenting “Peering into the pore space: a revolution in Petrophysics”.
On Wednesday 18th September 2013 the London Petrophysical Society will be holding a one-day
seminar entitled "Petrophysics-101; An Introduction to Formation Evaluation" at the Geological
Society, Burlington House, London. This is the latest in their series of "Basic FE" seminars, de-
signed mainly for less experienced colleagues and students.
Congratulations to the following student members who grant and awards since the last newslet-
ter : Abdul Majeed (Leeds) Grant, Ahmed Al-Salehi (Leicester) Student Prize, Tracey Vaitekai-
tis (Manchester) Grant, Xutong Li (Imperial) Bursary, Ghada A S Almoulani (Durham) Student
Prize, Sam Matthews, (Leicester) Grant.
Next year the Petroleum Group of the Geological Society are holding a two day conference on
Operations Geology and they have issued a call for abstracts. So if you are interested in speaking
at this prestigious event please see details at the end of the Newsletter
All the best

Petrophysics 101—Basic Formation Evaluation One Day Seminar Wed 18th Sept Burlington House London
London Petrophysical Society Newsletter Issue 08 2013
What?
A series of presentations by experienced petrophysicists on formation evaluation measurements and analysis. It will cover the basic principals of Petrophysics and
the estimation of important reservoir properties such as porosity, hydrocarbon saturation, permeability and net-to-gross ratio, incorporating log, core and pres-sure data, also common pitfalls and problems. It will look at how logs and core can be integrated to provide understanding of the subsurface and be integrated
in Geological and Engineering models of the reservoir.
Who Should Attend?
Petrophysicists, geologists, reservoir engineers, geophysicists, technical assis-tants, and support staff requiring an introduction to, or a refresher course on, for-
mation evaluation.
Why?
Help you to understand the nature of petrophysical data and the role of the petro-physicist. Explain the vocabulary for effective communication in discussing for-mation evaluation, whether as a geologist, reservoir engineer, geophysicist, or
other professional.
£150 for delegates Students can register for free
(LPS is not VAT registered) Includes lunch and post-seminar wine and savories.
Doors open at 9am
